thanks for the clarification, and please forgive the noise on the 
mailing lists that I made. The original announcement, the first email in 
this thread, contains this information:

BTW, we are currently running version 3.2 on FreeBSD, and the memory 
usage reported by the OS still seems to be twice that of version 2.x. Is 
this specific to FreeBSD?
