Hello there, Where can I find Bird2 for Jessie? If it's indeed required to make my own debian package for it, instructions on how? The repo at https://bird.network.cz/debian/ only has 1.6.x. Best regards, Skyler Mäntysaari

Debian unstable or testing? apt install -t unstable|testing bird2 * *requires unstable and/or testing in sources.list or sources.list.d/ packages.debian.org/sid/bird2 -- Cheers, CHRIZTOFFER
What do you mean with "debian unstable or testing"? It seems weird to have it only in unstable/testing tough, as coming from Ubuntu and it's there already without needing to do really anything to repos. Example from Ubuntu Focal: bird2: Installed: 2.0.7-2 Candidate: 2.0.7-2 Version table: *** 2.0.7-2 500 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status On 15/07/2020 21.40, Chriztoffer Hansen wrote:

Ubuntu is progressive compared to Debian being more conservative. Debian is simply in line with what the developers intentions. I highly doubt we are going to see bird2 package included in Debian stable, before the Dev team being BIRD releases their own Debian build and officially confirms bird2 to be the "new stable" and bird1 to be the "old stable" release. -- mu ⅕ cents Chriztoffer
Hello,
It seems weird to have it only in unstable/testing tough,
Jessie was LTS and is EoL since 16 days[1], you should consider abandoning this sinking ship! Debian stable is Buster, you find bird2 for Buster in the network.cz repo regards, fran [1] https://wiki.debian.org/LTS On 16.07.20 10:31, Chriztoffer Hansen wrote:

Hi, I cannot do much about it, as VyOS 1.2 is based of Jessie and I'm using it but that's beside the point I think. On 16/07/2020 14.02, Fran wrote:

I'm not running rolling in this one due to bugs in it. On 16/07/2020 15.20, Chriztoffer Hansen wrote:

Hi We have bird2 packages at https://bird.network.cz/debian/ for Buster (10) and Stretch (9). We do not have bird2 packages for Jessie (8) as it is already EOL. There are no bird2 packages in Debian Stable just because we did not manage to make them before Debian Stable freeze.
I highly doubt we are going to see bird2 package included in Debian stable, before the Dev team being BIRD releases their own Debian build and officially confirms bird2 to be the "new stable" and bird1 to be the "old stable" release.
Well, bird1 is currently more 'legacy', it will get important bugfixes, but probably no new features. I already use bird2 in production, and we nudge big users to switch to bird2. -- Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo Ondrej 'Santiago' Zajicek (email: santiago@crfreenet.org) OpenPGP encrypted e-mails preferred (KeyID 0x11DEADC3, wwwkeys.pgp.net) "To err is human -- to blame it on a computer is even more so."
