Static IPv6 route with a link-local next-hop

Hi, Since this was non-obvious to get working, I'm sharing this here. To add a static route via a link-local next-hop, this configuration works: protocol direct { interface "eth0"; } protocol static { route 2001:db8::/32 via fe80::1%eth0; } If the "protocol direct" is omitted, then Bird never uses the route, and doesn't give any reason why in the logs (even with debug activated). Another difficulty is that all of the following are syntactically correct: route 2001:db8:1::/48 via "eth0"; route 2001:db8:2::/48 via fe80::1%eth0; route 2001:db8:3::/48 via "fe80::1%eth0"; route 2001:db8:4::/48 via fe80::1; However, only the first two forms are legal: - « via "eth0" » adds a directly connected route (which is probably not what you want depending on your use-case, but fully legal) - « via fe80::1%eth0 » gives the expected result, a static route via fe80::1 on interface eth0. - « via "fe80::1%eth0" » fails silently. I guess the parser takes all this as an interface name, which (obviously) does not exist. - « via fe80::1 » fails at runtime with « Static route destination fe80::1 is invalid. Ignoring. » in the logs, which is a very sensible behaviour. I think this is intricate enough to be noted somewhere in a documentation or wiki. Is this wiki [https://gitlab.labs.nic.cz/labs/bird/wikis/home] open to contributions? Maybe it would also help if Bird was a bit more verbose on the edge cases above? (e.g. a static route through an interface without a "protocol direct" should probably be logged somewhere) Thanks, Baptiste

[BGP] Routes exported very Slowly

Hello, I have a problem with one of my session. I've established a BGP session with one of my peer but I export very slowly all my routes (around 1 route every 20 sec) I tried to disable/enable the session, doesn’t change. I restarted the session, doesn’t change neither. converting our anycast node from quagga

Hi, I just started to play with bird. My anycast node setup is as follows. - each anycast server is serving form 1 up to 3 anycast prefixes - the anycast adresses are assigned to the dummyX interfaces as /32(IPv4) or /128(IPv6) - the BGP/quagga/ is advertising the /24 or /48 (added aggregate-address ......../24 (/48) summary-only - if I put the dummyX interface down, the BGP will stop announce the route associated to this interface, both IPv4 and IPv6 - if I put the dummyX interface up, the BGP will start announce the route The setup is a little more complex (metric, communities, preferencies, ..), but this is the main idea how it works. In another words I could stop/start announce the anycast prefix without reconfiguring the bgp daemon. Please, could someone point me how to do this in bird. bgp export not active route

Hello is it possible export in bgp a route non active ? I receive the same network from more neighbor and only one is active. I would like export to another neighbor those not active for my bird router. thanks Steck

BGP Path manipulation

Hi, I'm working on a Enterprise-network merger where I have to temporarily workaround an AS-Path issue and need to clean the path. I want to use the Filter language for that, http://bird.network.cz/?get_doc&f=bird-5.html For example on those AS-Path: 10.0.0.0/8 65500 65500 65500 192.168.0.0/16 65500 172.16.22.0/24 65500 65122 65100 I want to apply this function: filter bgp_cut_path () { if p.first == 65500 && p.last != 65500 { delete(P, 65500) } then return; } which doesn't touch the first two, but removes 65500 from the third. Patch: Let "make" output be nicer

BIRD removing BGP routes from other daemon - FreeBSD

Hello, I have a particular scenario where my BGP runs with OpenBGP and I can not change it right now. However I want BIRD to use OSPF and BFD. While BIRD works perfectly, better than OpenOSPF for my scenario, when I start it, it completely removes all routes installed by OpenBGP. My kernel context has learn, persist and import: protocol kernel { learn; persist; scan time 10; import all; #export all; graceful restart on; } What should I do to keep BIRD co-operating with other routing daemons? Thank you.

Bird 1.4.5 add-path crash

Hello, I'm seeing Bird 1.4.5 crash with a segmentation fault when receiving routes from a peer with add-path enabled. BIRD config: protocol bgp { direct; description "Juniper"; local as 65065; neighbor a:b:c:a as 65065; add paths rx; gateway direct; import none; export none; } The other side is a Juniper BGP speaker (JunOS 12.3R7), with the following config: neighbor a:b:c:d { family inet6 { unicast { add-path { send { path-count 2; } } } } peer-as 65065; } Session establishment completes, but when the Juniper sends routes Bird crashes.
