how to confirm which capabilities have been negotiated

Hello, Do we have an appropriate command to show which BGP capabilities have been negotiated on bird after a peer has been established? Of course, I known I can recognize when I look into packets captured, or confirm it on the neighbor router by using "show ip bgp neighbor x.x.x.x" command (in the case of CiscoIOS). it wouldn't be smart. BIRD at MSK-IX

Hi, We successfully finished the process of adaptation BIRD to MSK-IX network. Currently BIRD is running on both IPv4 Route Servers (version 1.2.0 with some patches from Ondrej Zajicek). ECMP/multipath support

Hi! BIRD does not support EMCP yet. Looking at the source code, BIRD seems to be able to support ECMP routes internally by adding attaching several route attributes to the same route entry. Is there already someone working on this? ECMP is an important feature when dealing with redundancy. Thanks.

Problem with case / else: in filters

Hi all, I'm runnning bird6 version 1.2.5 and bird version 1.2.5 and I'm experiencing a problem: Bird returns a syntax error at the "else:" line while bird6 tells me it's okay. Is this a well known bug or am I doing somethinig wrong? Do you see any workaround? case arg1 { 2: print "two"; print "I can do more commands without {}"; 3 .. 5: print "three to five"; else: print "something else"; Note that I got the version via apt-get on Debian... Any IX willing to share their config?

We are a new Internet Exchange in Minneapolis, MN, USA. Currently evaluating BIRD as our route server. Basic config working in lab with both IPv4 & IPv6 daemon. Expression calculation bug?

Hello, There is possible bug in calculation of expressions. Let's assume that bgp_path.first is a 32-bit ASN. Then this line does not work: bgp_community.add((MyASN,bgp_path.first-bgp_path.first/65536*65536)); It does not raise syntax error etc. but bird stops announces of prefix which the adding is applied to. The following workaround works as expected: t = bgp_path.first/65536; t = bgp_path.first - t * 65536; bgp_community.add((MyASN,t)); P.S. I'm still using version 1.2.4. Could someone check it with 1.2.5? -- MINO-RIPE

Hello, Would someone be so kind to explain the syntax of 'debug' command in birdc? The description in User's Guide is very short. I need to debug a filtering to/from certain BGP neighbor. I've tried different options: bird> debug ? debug (<protocol> | <pattern> | all) (all | off | { states | routes | filters | interfaces | events | packets }) Control protocol debugging via BIRD logs bird> debug FREEBIT filters syntax error bird> debug BGP filters syntax error bird> debug bgp filters syntax error bird> debug all filters syntax error bird> debug all states syntax error Thanks in advance! -- MINO-RIPE

BGP: Add support for peering with link-local IPv6 addresses

Hi, the attached patch adds support for using link-local v6 addresses for BGP peerings by adding an interface attribute to the BGP protocol. It has been succesfully tested in a Bird<->Quagga configuration on Linux, and with Bird<->Bird using Linux<->Linux and Linux<->FreeBSD. I know the BGP RFCs (especially 2545) are a bit unclear if this should be allowed, but RFC 4659 suggests it should, and also describes how to set the NEXT_HOP attribute when no global addresses are used. Anyways, I'd love to see this patch included in Bird. It shouldn't make any difference when you don't use the interface attribute, so it won't have bad influence on people not using this feature, and it makes Bird an alternative to Quagga when you need link-local peering support. :-) Matthias Schiffer
