BGP Monitoring Protocol (BMP) support in Bird?

Hi, I am wondering if somebody is working on BGP Monitoring Protocol (BMP) support in Bird? Note that I'm just asking, I'm not requesting our beloved Bird developers to add this feature with a deadline set to yesterday :) I might try to implement it if nobody else already did. Basically, this is just a way to export BGP data over a TCP connection: http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc7854 This looks like a useful alternative to dumping to mrtdump files, there are already several free software clients: https://code.google.com/archive/p/bmpreceiver/ http://www.openbmp.org/#!index.md Baptiste

New in BIRD

Hi, I recently started trying to learn BIRD. I should also mention I have no previous experience with any other Routing daemon either. I want to configure a bgp monitor for both ipv4 and ipv6. I am running BIRD in a Ubuntu 13.10 VM. I managed to install both bird and bird6 but I have some problems with the configurations. In ipv4 : I created a very simple configuration which I attach. The conf is compiled but in birdc the bgp session is considered idle. I tried to do a tcpdump and found that the router sends a TCP SYN on the VM's bgp port but the VM responds with a RST and never tries to set a BGP session itself. In ipv6 : No matter the configuration (my configuration or the sample coming with bird6 or examples found on the web) the configuration is not compiled giving the following error : BIRD ipv6 doesn't run (bird: /usr/local/etc/bird6.conf, line 1: Router ID must be configured manually on IPv6 routers) Could anyone give me some pointers on what I am doing wrong ? Getting details about LSAs

Hello, Is there a way to obtain more information about LSAs? I've been debugging an issue with a hardware router. I know I can do this: bird> show ospf lsadb lsid 10.16.80.0 Global Type LS ID Router Sequence Age Checksum 0005 10.16.80.0 192.168.253.6 800012e8 1193 e030 0005 10.16.80.0 193.136.152.3 8000042a 1464 0a6f But I'd like to see things such as the Forwarding Address in AS-external-LSAs, the Options field, and so on. Would this be possible to do? Perhaps adding an "all" option to the show ospf lsadb command. I think it would prove valuable for troubleshooting those weird cases. Regards, -- Israel G. [PATCH] Gate boolean protocol options on filename.

Toggling session parameters currently requires editing the configuration file and reloading BIRD. Doing so programatically requires keeping up with the syntax and layout of a particular configuration. This commit introduces an alternative method for gating configuration of boolean protocol properties. In addition to the keywords on/off and yes/no, a user can instead provide a filename on which to predicate whether the flag is set. [PATCH 2/7] Babel: Immediately send a hello on interface reconfigure.

An interface reconfiguration may change the hello interval. Section 3.4.1 of the RFC specifies that either the change shouldn't be applied until the next hello is due, or an additional hello should be sent immediately. This does the latter. selctive route download

Hi, Can someone help me in selective route download using bird?. I did not see any specific configs. Secondly I don't want the routes learnt by bgp peers to be installed in the kernel but only routes that are stored in a file through some application to be downloaded to the kernel how do i do it?. The file can have both prefixes and next-hops or just prefixes? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks,

BGP communities attached to prefix issue

Hello, We use BIRD as route server with the well-known "BGP Community policy based filtering" as in most of all other IXP with the following type: * /Do not announce a prefix to a certain peer: 0:peer-as/ * /Announce a prefix to a certain peer: IXP_AS:peer-as/ * /Do not announce a prefix to any peer: 0:IXP_AS/ * /Announce a prefix to all peers: IXP_AS:IXP_AS/ But recently we came across the following case: A member of our IXP is sending his prefixes with attached a huge count of BGP communities ( ~ 750 pcs ) Each of the attached community has following type: 0:ASN ( peer-as ). We see that BIRD accepts these prefixes from member but it return the following error notification: 2016-06-30 10:06:59 <ERR> R0_248: Attribute list too long, skipping corresponding routes 2016-06-30 10:06:59 <ERR> R0_248: - route *x.x.x.0/24* skipped In the same time I'm able to see the prefixes that are exported fine to all member RIBs(for which there is no prohibiting with 0:ASN) via pipes but in spite of that , the prefix is not advertised to any peer over eBGP protocol. In addition at the same time I'm able to see that the prefixes persist into the RIB and BIRD shows that they're advertised but obviously this is not a true.
