Hello, We're still waiting for any feedback on this useful patch. We've been running it in our mesh network with nearly 200 nodes. I'm also considering submitting it to the routing feed (cc @Toke), and I hope the patch will be adapted for BIRD 3 as well. SRv6 support

Hello BIRD team, Is there interest for SRv6 support in BIRD? We have an internal fork with SRv6 L3VPN support that we have been using for several years in our network, we can upstream the patches. It is not a 100% complete support (at least the SID allocator is missing: we use static routes to bind the routes to a specific SID), but it is enough to act as a PE, there is BGP support and it installs remote SRv6 routes in the Linux kernel SRv6 using netlink. Please let me know what you think. If anyone would like to have a look, I attach the patches (for master branch) to implement SRv6 SID stack support in the nest and static protocol. Any comments are welcome. L3VPN: Adding support for import/export target none and import target all

Hello BIRD team, This patch (for master branch) contains two commits for L3VPN protocol: - 0001: It adds support for "import/export target none" (or "[]" to specify an empty set, which is the same). For example it can be used when we do not want to import/export any route from/to the VRF, of if we prefer to set the RT it in filters (adding different RT for different IP prefixes for example). - 0002: It adds support for "import target all", ie all VPN routes are imported in the VRF IP table regardless of the RTs. Useful when we need to import any route or we want to have a more complex policy implemented in filters. Thanks! -- Sébastien

Hi all! I've accidentally found a "mistake" in lib/timer.c (master branch). Mistake in quotes, because it is rather a configuration mistake, as I found later. There is a function prototype definition inside "#ifdef USE_PTHREADS", which is then used outside of it, but in "#ifdef CONFIG_BFD": #ifdef USE_PTHREADS ... void wakeup_kick_current(void); #else ... #endif ... void tm_set(timer *t, btime when) { ... #ifdef CONFIG_BFD /* Hack to notify BFD loops */ if ((loop != &main_timeloop) && (t->index == 1)) wakeup_kick_current(); #endif } So in case USE_PTHREADS is not defined and CONFIG_BFD is defined, the compilation would fail with implicit function declaration error. It could be reproduced with: ./configure --disable-pthreads --with-protocols=bfd make ... lib/timer.c: In function 'tm_set': lib/timer.c:165:5: error: implicit declaration of function 'wakeup_kick_current' [-Wimplicit-function-declaration] 165 | wakeup_kick_current(); | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ make: *** [Makefile:115: obj/lib/timer.o] Error 1 But even moving that function prototype out of "#ifdef USE_PTHREADS" does not help. It then fails on proto/bfd/io.c using undefined references, because it uses pthreads unconditionally. I think it would be better to fail on "configure" stage with a meaningful message that bfd requires pthreads. I see there is now only a workaround to exclude bfd from the default set of protocols if pthreads is not enabled. Advertise IPs as single regardless of prefix

Hello List! I am working on a project to bring L3 down to the individual host and am thinking through the transitionary configuration. For the purposes of this discussion, the hosts are assigned IPv4 addresses within a /24 and IPv6 addresses within a /64. Currently, I'm using a dummy interface and adding the IPs they own as v4 /32 and v6 /128 and in combination with an export filter to only export /32 and /128 prefixes, this works great. However, I was wondering if there is a way to configure BIRD so that for the IPs configured on the host it supplants the configured prefix with /32 and/or /128 allowing me to eliminate the dummy interface? BIRD 3.1.4 and 3.0.5 released

Dear BIRD users, we are releasing BIRD versions 3.1.4 and 3.0.5. We have fixed several crashes in BGP. including one which was remotely exploitable (CVE-2025-59688). This was so far probably the worst bug I remember, and we very much hope that nothing similar is going to happen any time soon again. Release TGZs are available on our website <https://bird.nic.cz/get-bird>. Our autobuild packages are available in the appropriate Gitlab jobs: - [3.0.5](https://gitlab.nic.cz/labs/bird/-/jobs/1493710/artifacts/browse/pkg/) - [3.1.4](https://gitlab.nic.cz/labs/bird/-/jobs/1493709/artifacts/browse/pkg/) Debian and Ubuntu packages will be also soon available in our repository at <https://pkg.labs.nic.cz/doc?project=bird>. Hello, I've enabled cli "/path/to/socket.ctl" { v2 attributes; } for backward compatibility, but it looks like some of the attributes are not displayed in the v2 format: (bgp_community and bgp_large_community) 91.xxx.xxx.xxx/22 unicast [pb_as65001_vli19999_ipv4 2025-09-06 22:35:27] * (100) [AS65002i] via 5.57.82.xx on eth1 Type: BGP univ BGP.origin: IGP BGP.as_path: 65001 65002 BGP.next_hop: 5.57.82.xx BGP.local_pref: 100 bgp_community: (65001,1) (65001,64702) bgp_large_community: (8330, 1000, 1) (8330, 1001, 1) BIRD 2 shows it as: BGP.community: BGP.large_community: I searched the code and it's in https://gitlab.nic.cz/labs/bird/-/blob/v3.1.3/proto/bgp/attrs.c But I don't know any C, and it doesn't look like an "obvious" problem.
