OSPF default route under special circumstance

Hi, I have 4 routers: ISP1 ISP2 l l A1 A2 l------------------l B1 B2 A1 is directly connected to its' on ISP and A2 is directly connected to its' own ISP, too. A1 and A2 are performing eBGP, iBGP and OSPF. I already configured all protocols and distributed the default gateway (A{1,2}) for B{1,2}. For that I created a 0.0.0.0/0 route in the static section of A{1,2} and filtered it out in the BGP-, OSPF-, and Kernel-table of A{1,2}: import filter { if net = 0.0.0.0/0 then reject; accept}; export all; So, basicly A{1,2} should throw this default-route only in OSPF and they should not have the default-route in their own routing-table. But, unfortunately, A{1,2} actually do have this route in their table. How do I have to configure my protocols so that A{1,2} do not show this behavior? In my understandings, routers like A{1,2} should not have a default-route in their routing-table... My 2nd desire is the following: A{1,2} should throw the default-route in the OSPF area <only> if the BGP adjacency is reachable and the BGP peer is formed (BGP state should be established). Is this desire realizable with bird only? Has somebody already conquered this challenge? Or was it even a problem for anyone? Thanks in advance. Sascha

[PATCH master] IPv6 ECMP support fixes for linux

Hello Fellows, as a follow-up for the recent discussion about BIRD support of IPv6 ECMP on Linux ( http://trubka.network.cz/pipermail/bird-users/2016-January/010163.html ), I've created a patch, which addresses this problem. The current patch is against the master branch, i.e. for BIRD 1.x. I will also post a similar patch against the int-new branch, for BIRD 2. Note that the patch still does not support the learn mode for IPv6 ECMP. The support for it can be added later. Thanks, Mikhail

Exporting routes as text

Dear Colleagues, Is there a way to export (extract) routes from BIRD as a list of prefixes in text format, to a text file or pipe? I can perhaps write an expect script to communicate with birdc, but such kind of screenscraping is always the last resort. Or should I communicate through the /var/run/bird.ctl socket? What's the set of commands I can send to the socket to extract some routes with a filter? I can do: $ echo help | nc -U /var/run/bird.ctl 0001 BIRD 1.5.0 ready. 9001 syntax error Thank in advance for any input. Hi Matjaž, we're currently working on VPN address support in Bird's supported protocols, as well as MPLS routing. We partially reuse Alexander's code with lots of thanks for it. Due to the nature of those changes, it's virtually impossible to implement it in the 1.x branch but the 2.0 version is near. Basic VPN support should be available in the first or second release of the integrated (2.0) branch. Anyway, our testing cluster is quite small so at least the first releases should be taken with care and patience. Thank you for your reminder. Can bird include metrics when installing linux kernel routes?

Hi, Is there a way to make bird include a metric when installing routes into the linux routing table? I want to base the metric on the length of the BGP path (so longer path via prepending has higher metric), or failing that, a local_pref value. Regards, Mike

BGP session between quagga and bird

How to establish BGP session between Bird and Quagga? I have two virtual machines created on FreeBSD. With a route server Quagga and another with Bird. But Bird did not establece connection with Quagga. I managed to establish session with a Mikrotik router but I can not with the route server Quagga. Bird as an MPLS RR

Hi guys, I'm following the instructions from http://bird.mpls.in/projects/mpls-bird/wiki/Bird_rr but I get a syntax error when adding the table statements. I'm using Bird 1.4.5 for Ubuntu utopic installed from this ppa: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/cz.nic-labs/bird/ubuntu utopic main deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/cz.nic-labs/bird/ubuntu utopic main But it seems that version is not yet compiled for VPNv4 (AFI/SAFI 1/128) capabilities. already checked this link with no luck... https://www.mail-archive.com/bird-users%40atrey.karlin.mff.cuni.cz/msg03141… any ideas? How to prefer BGP route over OSPF?

Hi I've got a linux router with 2 uplinks - one is a Cisco VDSL modem advertising 0.0.0.0/0 over OSPF when VDSL is up and one is Fibre link where the ISP sends us 0.0.0.0/0 over BGP. If both links are up I want to route everything over Fibre (BGP), if Fibre fails for any reason use the VDSL (OSPF). Here is my config: protocol ospf ospf_vdsl { area 65 { stub no; interface "vdsl0" { cost 1000; type broadcast; authentication none; }; }; import where net = 0.0.0.0/0; export none; }; protocol bgp bgp_fibre { local as xx526; neighbor x.x.20.201 as xx746; source address x.x.20.202; import where net = 0.0.0.0/0; export none; }; With this config Bird 1.4.5 always prefers OSPF whenever the link is up - how can I tell it to prefer BGP instead?
