logical operations on parts of pairs

Hi guys, Is there a way to do logical operations on only 1 of the 2 ints in a pair? case: I would like to check if in community (xxx,yyy) yyy is bigger than some other variable. I now have something like this: define deny = 1337; define maxRange 100; define denyRange = [ (deny,1)..(deny,maxRange) ]; if (bgp_community ~ DenyRange) then { print "ALARM!"; ### PSEUDO CODE #### if bgp_community.part2 >= 10 { return false; } } Same question for extended and large communities, but I assume that would work the same way. Re-set-ing constants/variables

Hi, I'm working on a (Freifunk) network setup based on Linux and Bird using an OSPF/iBGP configuration which basicly works like a charm. Now I have some setups where multiple prefixes are configured on a node either for connected networks or for some anycasted ressources. To be able to enable/disable exporting these prefixes separately base on different criteria (probaly by different check scripts trigger by cron or something like this) I thought about options to realize this. All my configuration is centrally managed by Salt and some mighty templates. My first though was to have something like the following in the global configuration define SITE_LEGACY_ONLINE = 0; define SITE_PADCTY_ONLINE = 0; define SITE_PADUML_ONLINE = 0; define DRAINED = 0; an later re-set these values to 0 in separate config files which are automagically generated by some script of other means. Thereby I can have useful defaults and only when a check rules for a positive outcome a SITE would go online (read: the prefix would be announed). Any I make sure the configuration as a whole is useful all the time. Now I tried to just reset a value like SITE_LEGACY_ONLINE = 1; or define SITE_LEGACY_ONLINE = 1; later in the configuration but both raise configuration errors (as I was afraid they would). Are there any means to build something like that? Like having some defaults in the main config and re-set these values later on (in other config snippets)? If I would generate the defines by a script I would have some time where this part might be missing (like on first install) and my config would fail to load as the defines are referenced but not defined. Use Variables / Defines in include statements

Hi, i currently try to do different includes, based on an variable/define within the config. for example: function test(int asn) { [ do something general ] include "/etc/bird/" . asn . OSPF socket error on "bge0" invalid argument

is there a better way to get aliases sent

Hi, I am running bird on a bunch of border machines. We have a local 172.16 net that connects the border machines with the edge routers who peer with the ISPs. The borders have a whole bunch of host aliases that they answer for and want to ibgp advertise those to the edge routers. The borders have dual network connections to the edge to reduce single point of failure situations. I did the classic attach the host addresses to the loopback address so if an interface goes down the host aliases don't. The problem is that these don't get inserted into the kernel routing table automatically. To get around this I put a static route via "lo" for each one in bird. It works but is a pain because I have to keep the startup config files and bird in sync. I am dealing with over 100 aliases, so the opportunity for error is significant. I have written some simple automation to help, but before I live with this I want to see if there is a better way to do this? thanks, jerry -- Soundhound Devops "What could possibly go wrong?"

Errors like "bgp1: Error: Hold timer expired"

I'm trying to use bird to help prevent spam as described here: https://debian-administration.org/article/715/Preventing_SPAM_connections_w… I understand very little about BGP, so I'm really using that article as a "recipe", and have used the config file there more or less as is, except for changing the router id setting and enabling logging (and I've increased scan time to 600). First question: is trying to use bird in this way in any case this a sensible thing to do? Upgrade to 1.6.3

Hi, I was trying to upgrade my bird instance from v1.6.0 to v1.6.3 today. Tested on linux kernels 4.4 or 4.8. Package is from cznic deb repository. I can see the warning log line was added at Dec 20 2016, which ended up in 1.6.3 release. Hence this was happening probably even before the upgrade, but it was not visible. So the question is simple. Does it means there is something terribly wrong with my machine, or the high rate of this warning is expected? Cheers Michal
