bird 2.0.3 pushes connected routes to kernel

After upgrading from bird 2.0.2 to 2.0.3 we discovered that bird pushes connected routes to the kernel. Tried to alter the preference values for kernel and device, but bird still pushes the connected routes, resulting in duplicate in kernel FIB. How to import connected and kernel routes without bird installing the connected routes again? The only way I found to make it work was by putting an export filter in the kernel like this; export where (source != RTS_DEVICE); Thanks, Kenth

BIRD over internet with static routes?

I'm wanting to use BIRD to monitor WAN connectivity of CLIENTS to a SERVER. I'm not familiar with BIRD and I'm relying on RFC5883 description of multi-hop to make my case. I want to set 2 static routes. 1 is a route from CLIENT to SERVER out WAN1. This is the route to be monitored by BFD and it's route distance is 1. The second route is the fall-back, it's not monitored and it's distance is 2 out WAN2. BIRD/BFD's job here is simply to tear down the static route with distance 1. Complication, client's are likely dynamic IP address and also likely behind NAT. The net result is to have a VPN such as wireguard migrate from WAN1 to WAN2 rapidly on WAN1 failure. Wireguard is built to handle this, so ignore complications from changing of src addresses, they are handled. Is this doable and if so, can anyone offer any help with the config? Thanks! Dan.

bfd configuration

Hi, I've enabled bfd on an iBGP session between two routers. The routers are directly connected, just L2. Taking down the iBGP session (in this case, rebooting the router) results in the following which I find a bit confusing: # birdc show proto BIRD 2.0.3 ready. minimal protocols support now needs RIP?

Hello, I'm not the FreeBSD port maintainer for bird, however did wrote the initial bird2 port. In there I created the interface to "assemble" which protocols you wish, by un/checking checkboxes. This allows to only support what's needed. That worked all fine untill 2.0.3, but now I get stuck with this: BIRD was configured with the following options: Source directory: . Unknown instruction 8574 in same (~) Bug

Hello BIRD-users, I am running BIRD version 1.6.3 for about one year now and everything seems to be ok. I've just changed some configuration (set next-hop of a route to some IP address) and then issued a "configure" command at birdc console. That caused bird to exit! I ran bird again with the same configuration and nothing happened this time. protocol pipe and bgp

Hello, If I have pipe between two kernel routing tables, which, in turn, are filled with two different BGP protocols, when these routes are exported from kernel FIB via pipe, do they retain their BGP attributes like BGP preference ? Or, if this question is more clear, does the following statement for an pipe filter look sane ? filter exportfib0tofib2 { if source = RTS_BGP then { print "fib0 to fib2 export: net accepted: ", net; bgp_local_pref = 25; accept; } else { print "fib0 to fib2 export: net rejected: ", net; reject; } } or should I operate generifc protocol preference instead ? I'm asking because I created BGP/PIPE configuration when the last established BGP session seems to get the maximum preference when exported via pipe, if you know what I mean. Thanks. Eugene.

enforce-first-as disable

Hello BIRD Users, "enforce-first-as disable" is a BGP option that can be configured for a BGP neighbor on a Cisco router. It is usually configured when the neighbor is a route server as route servers do not add their AS to the AS path of the prefixes they advertise. If I configure BIRD to BGP peer with a route server, how can I configure this option please? I do not find it in BIRD user guide. Thanks in advance!Firas

1.6.5 and 2.0.3 packages?

Hello Bird users, Is there any ETA for the packages for Bird 1.6.5 and 2.0.3? I'm running a production network with Bird and I want to upgrade my Debian routers to the latest version of Debian. I was planning on combining this with the upgrade from Bird 1.6.4 to 1.6.5, in order to have downtime only once instead of two times. Furthermore I'm doing RPKI validation at the moment with 1.6.x, but the somewhat hacky way in which I'm doing this is falling apart now, so I think I need to upgrade to Bird 2.0.x in the near future, so I can use the RTR protocol and do RPKI validation in a way less hacky way. But for both I need Debian packages :). I know this e-mail can come across like I'm pushing hard for packages, but I hope you understand that it isn't meant that way. I would like to know when the packages are expected to be available, so I can start planning my next actions and have my network running as smoothly as possible with the most current versions of the software. route export number discrepancy

Hi list, We've upgraded to 2.0.3 (from 1.6.3) and observed that the number of exported routes shown in the protocol details ('show protocol all') does not match (by large) these show in 'show route export PROTOCOL count'. In the below example we can see that the protocol export counters are at some crazy values. # birdc show proto all DIACONESCU_V4 | grep exported Routes: 16 imported, 0 filtered, 4294965736 exported While we actually export only 3 routes. # birdc show route export DIACONESCU_V4 count BIRD 2.0.3 ready. 3 of 726536 routes for 724797 networks in table main4. Now, what is interesting is that the exported count changes periodically. i.e. Routes: 16 imported, 0 filtered, 4294967283 exported Routes: 16 imported, 0 filtered, 4294967293 exported At this stage I believe this is related to protocols that export a only a few routes (rather than full tables). I've been able to reproduce this in lab using the production config and then ran the following tests: 1) changing export to none, reconfigure - did not clear the counters - looking at the code counters are reset on refeed, so perhaps that does not happen here 2) disabling and enabling the protocol - it briefly shows the correct count (3) and then goes back to a crazy number almost immediately. 3) restarting bird - the counters clear up and then some random time later the crazy number pops up again. Has anyone else on the list experienced this? I'd be happy to provide more info if needed, but at the moment not really sure what to make out of it. Also, can I ask why the preferred routes were removed from the protocol summary in bird 2 i.e. the below? Routes: 722830 imported, 0 filtered, 1 exported, 3648 preferred
