(resending with proper from address) Hello, It seems that bird ignores any interfaces / ip addresses which have a subnet mask of 255.255.255.255. This seems to apply to both BGP as OSPF. An interface configured with A.B.C.D/E (E<32) seems to be picked up just fine, whereas configuring it A.B.C.D/32 and a route to A.B.C.D/E does not result in the interface to be picked. I'm quite sure I'm missing something trivial here, but I can't seem to figure out what exactly. Regards, Ruben Laban

BUG in nest/rt-fib.c

I've compile bird6 with --enable-debug --enable-ipv6 and I got this when running: 04-03-2011 20:17:38 <BUG> fib_get() called for invalid address; len: 127 bits_per_ip_address: 128 ip_is_prefix: 0 This is from ospf protocol. -- //fredan

Newbie question - create filter for prefixes to export and also modify bgp next hop

Hi As said, I'm new to BIRD and struggling a bit with the config syntax. I'll try to explain what I want to do. I have a few prefixes, lets say 10.1.1.0/24, 10.2.2.0/24, 10.3.3.0/24. I want to announce these (and only these) in a BGP session, but with a modified next hop. How would I do this? Any help is much appreciated. /Tias

Malformed AS_PATH workaround

Hello, one of participants of our IXP trying to build BGP session with Route-server running bird v. 1.2.4. The problem is that customer uses BGP on Alcatel-Lucent OS-6850. It seems that this switch requires first-as matching peer-as and no way to change its behavior. We're using next configuration for peers: protocol bgp PEER { passive; local as MyASN; neighbor x.x.x.x as PeerASN; rs client; import where bgp_in([ ... ]); export where bgp_out(PeerASN); } Is there a way to keep "rs client" functionality, but add MyASN to as-path? If I create separate export filter with prepends, will it work? Thanks in advance! -- MINO-RIPE

Have a situation .. It is necessary to link two Rout server (internal bgp) by cat6509 approximate scheme: rs1 (vlan1, as1111)-c6509 (as1111) - rs2 (vlan2, as1111) In this configuration, protocol bgp c6509 { local as 1111; neighbor 178.xxx.xx.x as 1111; error: Only external neighbor can be RS client how can I get out of this situation and to link both route servers internal bgp? without the use of gray AS

Bird6 and static blackhole

Hi, I'm setting up bird6 as core IPv6 BGP router and in order to annunce my subnet aggregated i used the blackhole method: protocol static { route 2a01:9c01::/32 drop; } but when i started bird i keep getting this error: bird6: device1: Scanning interfaces bird6: kernel1: Scanning routing table bird6: kernel1: Pruning table master bird6: kernel1: 2a01:9c01::/32: reinstalling bird6: Netlink: No such device bird6: kernel1: Pruning inherited routes it seems that linux doesn't allow to set blackhole ipv6 routes without specifing the device: root@:~# ip -f inet6 route add blackhole 2a01:9c01::/32 RTNETLINK answers: No such device if I append dev lo the route inserts without problems. This error does not happen with reject and so protocol static { route 2a01:9c01::/32 reject; } works like a charm. There is a way to solve this issue? Or maybe you can consider allowing to specify device in route drop command. Regards. G.Ravasio

Some questions about BIRD

Hi everyone, I am a Master Degree student in Computer Science in Udine, Italy. I'm currently developing a project with the Engineering Department of my University, for which we have to modify a router software to meet some our particular needing; we are trying to demonstrate that is possible to speed up routers speed for particular protocols and in particular conditions by saving in the ipv4 or ipv6 datagram the position in the forwarding table of the destination of the datagrams. Without explaining in depth our problems and our goals, we thought to BIRD as the router to modify to get our goals achieved. I'm asking you if, in BIRD, is possible to: 1 - read some particular fields in packets, defined by us; 2 - write some particular fields in packets, always defined by us; 3 - get the position in the forwarding table of the destination we are sending the datagram, possibly as a integer; 4 - having this integer, get the destination of a datagram in O(1) time, excluding the obvious coherence checks. Naturally, I'm not asking you to do the work I'll have to do :) I simply want to know if, in BIRD, are these things possible. I've already read the BIRD documentation and part of the source code, so I think that the the 3rd and 4th point are easy to achieve; moreover, I was unable to understand the IO loops of BIRD and how does it analyses packets, so I hope that you can give me an answer. filter issue

1.2.6 release due?

Hi, We've run into issues with bird 1.2.5 faulting with large OSPF LSA lists (> about 120 stub entries). I notice there are a few fixes in amongst the enhancements in the git repository that address this area. Are there any plans to issue a release in the near future, or am I as well cherry picking the fixes and rebuilding? Rgs Neil Wilson
