Hi In bird 2.0 protocol direct works correctly? New config: protocol direct { ipv4; ipv6; interface "*"; } And it doesn't announced any local prefix to upstream peers, only to ibgp peer. -- inż. Miłosz Oller

vmtoolsd 100% CPU with bird6

Hi guys, I noticed that the VM where I have deployed BIRD is having ~5 sec of 100% cpu used by the "vmtoolsd". This started to happened since I introduced a IPv6 peering (full table). I found a discussion where someone was suggesting to set the poll-interval=900 in the 'tools.conf'. I did that but still see the CPU sometime overused. Is there fix for that (I would prefer not to go to bird2.0 yet). Thanks! Andrea

Bird 2.0 AS path prepending

Hello bird users, I just started to test bird 2.0 and converted the existing bird 1.6 configuration to bird 2.0. I compiled bird 2.0.0 on my fedora test VM and got it running. But when I use path prepending in BGP (the same way I did in 1.6) bird throws an error and does not export the route. Does anyone have the same problem? Bird 2.0.0 and reconfiguring

Hi Why bird restart all sessions when I type 'configuration soft' in birdc after add one definition of protocol bgp? CPU usage is 100%, bird console hang for 2-3mins. With version 1.6.3 bird doesn't restart all sessions. -- inż. Miłosz Oller

Bird 2.0 - vpnv4/vpnv6 configuration examples

Hello I'm looking for some configuration examples about VPN4 and VPN6 BGP Peering. I'm testing the Bird2.0 version, but I've couldn't find how to enable the session using VPN4 and VPN6 The BGP Example posted in the user's guide, only has configuration of IPv4, IPv6 and Ipv4Multicast. Does anyone has tested this feature?. Regards.

Hi all I have basic test setup with some filters, see attachment. with this setup, The Two BGP sessions are established well as shown below , but " show route all " command display nothing .and there is no error in the log file bird> show protocols name proto table state since info device1 Device master up 15:23:30 pp_0005_as67020 Pipe master up 15:23:30 => t_0005_as67020 pb_0005_as67020 BGP t_0005_as67020 up 15:23:35 Established pp_0006_as67030 Pipe master up 15:23:30 => t_0006_as67030 pb_0006_as67030 BGP t_0006_as67030 up 15:23:35 Established bird> Do I need to set a specific parameters for show route ? what do I need to check ? Bird 2.0.0: configure --with-protocols bug

Hello *, I just discovered that bird's ./configure --with-protocols is buggy. Bird 2.0.0 -- unknown filter instructions

Hello *, I've been experimenting with bird 2.0.0 for a few days now. Apart from the memory leak (which Ondrej's patch appears to fix), the most serious issue I've run into is a spurious bird crash caused by the filter code. Twice so far, bird died when I ran 'birdc configure', with the messages "<BUG> Unknown instruction 26912" and "<BUG> Unknown instruction 0", respectively. I haven't been able to reliably reproduce these crashes, though. If someone has an idea how to do this, or at least how to narrow down which part of my lengthy filter config is causing it, that'd be much appreciated! Regards, Luis Ressel

Bird 2.0.0 & VRF & Best Practices

Hi List, i tried Bird 2.0.0, Kernel 4.14.6, Archlinux, VRF separated BGP Peerings. I get an Config running, where i had an BGP Peering in Global Space and one in a VRF. As the VRF Config seems "complex" i though maybe i do something wrong or even more complex as really needed. I had the following setup: VM1 - ens10 <----> ens10 - VM2 (Global Space, BGP Peering) VM1 - VRF RED - ens11 <----> ens11 - VRF RED VM2 ( VRF Peering) The following is my working config for the Peering "inside" the VRF: # VRF RED Tests ipv4 table T_VRF_RED; protocol kernel K_VRF_RED { vrf "red"; kernel table 100; scan time 20; ipv4 { table T_VRF_RED; import all; export all; }; } protocol direct C_VRF_RED { vrf "red"; ipv4 { table T_VRF_RED; }; interface "ens11"; interface "red"; # Think this can be ommitted ... } protocol static S_VRF_RED { vrf "red"; ipv4 { table T_VRF_RED; }; route 10.10.1.0/24 blackhole; } protocol bgp B_VRF_RED { vrf "red"; local 172.16.10.[1|2] as 65100; neighbor 172.16.10.[2|1] as 65100; multihop; # regular IPv4 unicast (1/1) ipv4 { table T_VRF_RED; import all; export where source ~ [ RTS_STATIC, RTS_BGP ]; }; } I tried several configs (with protocol direct, without) but this seems the only one, i get working Peerings with resolveable next hops. Is this as intended? Per VRF Kernel, Direct, BGP (Static only in my test) Protocol to get an working VRF aware / separated routing instance? Bird 2.0.0 and (filter) code deduplication

Hello *, TL;DR: Skip to last paragraph. during the migration to Bird 2.0.0, the combined linecount of my bird config files has increased by quite a bit. The bulk of the increase is an unfortunate consequence of the bird/bird6 merge which I'll describe in the following. With Bird 1.6.3 I could reuse protocol-agnostic filter code using the following scheme: $ cat bird.conf function foo() { # some v4-specific filter checks } include "common"; $ cat bird6.conf # same thing in green $ cat common function bar() { # protocol-agnostic boilerplate with calls to foo() all over it } This approach for code deduplication has become substantially more difficult with Bird 2.0.0. I do, however, have an suggestion on how to fix this: Could you please add a way to check the current channel's AFI/SAFI from within filter code? That way, I could keep my bar() function unmodified and merge the two foo() implementations using a 'if afi = "ipv4" then { } else { }' construction. Regards, Luis Ressel
