User docs for 1.6 and 2.0 are mixed up

Hi, Congratulations for the 2.0 release :) It is nice to have kept the 1.6 documentation online. However, the table of contents of the 1.6 doc actually points inside the 2.0 doc. For instance, go to 1.6 doc at http://bird.network.cz/?get_doc&f=bird.html&v=16 and click on "6.3 BGP": it will lead to http://bird.network.cz/?get_doc&f=bird-6.html#ss6.3 which is the BGP documentation for bird 2.0. The links are probably simply missing a "&v=16" parameter. Thanks, Baptiste

Bird 2.0.0 memory leak

Hi After install bird 2.0.0 from sources, bird has memory leak. After running it c.a. 15min daemon used ~24G of RAM. Compile options: ./configure --enable-client --enable-libssh Debian 9, kernel 4.9.69 -- Miłosz

Hello again - a couple of days ago I converted one of my test route-server setups from „dual BIRD-1.6.3“ to „single BIRD-2.0.0“ by simply „merging“ bird6.conf and bird.conf into a single (unified) new bird.conf - also observing the guidelines laid out in https://gitlab.labs.nic.cz/labs/bird/wikis/transition-notes-to-bird-2 <https://gitlab.labs.nic.cz/labs/bird/wikis/transition-notes-to-bird-2> . The results of this simple approach are between weird and stunning: I now have a bird process which is consuming 100% of one CPU. It is still talking to me through birdc, but is very sluggish, i.e. bringing up peers or tearing them down takes a long time - you even see states, like „flushing“ in „show proto all XXX“ for quite some time, which you normally don’t even notice, because they are usually very transitive :-) I haven’t gotten deeper into the problem, yet, but there appears to be a loop involving the affected peer’s Export Updates: Route change stats: received rejected filtered ignored accepted Import updates: 670962 0 0 0 670962 Import withdraws: 216 0 --- 0 216 Export updates: 317034802 159525749 157509053 --- 0 Export withdraws: 468 --- --- --- 0 (those numbers are increasing fast) Some of my peers were/are already MP-BGP capable and so some IPv6 peers now came up with „Hey, you speak IPv4 too? Cool! Here are some 700.000 routes for your, my friend!“, which is totally explicable, yet it surprised my a teeny bit, anyway :-) It should be made clear in the documentation, that BGP protocol definitions without explicit address-family → „channel“ definitions my eventually (see below) ending up MP-BGP sessions with the above effect!? (it seems the ipv6/ipv4 channel definitions within the templates each create their own instances instead of inheriting/enhancing (from) the ones upstream???) @Ondrej, et.al., is this even a „supported mode of operation“ → multiple IPv6 and IPv4 channels within one protocol? So this still somehow works, yet still with the 100% CPU consumption. @bird-devs: How would you like to address above issues? Yes, I can probably clean up the config file, which would probably even make the 100%-issue go away. But imho it shouldn’t be possible in the first place to create configs like these without BIRD at least kicking and screaming loudly about it. NB: This a a test-setup on a test-machine, so I’ll happily create accounts for you, if you send me an ssh-pubkey through email, if you like to have a „live look“ at the beast!? birdc 2.0.0 crashes

Hello all - I just compiled and installed BIRD 2.0.0 on a x86_64 Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS (with ZFS root) test-machine and (most) things look pretty dandy so far. Though ... birdc crashes inside lib-readline when I attempt to go back in the command history (^P or ↑), but only if there already is something to go back to. It also fails to create the .birdc_history file in the first place. Thankfully the 1.6.3 birdc still works fine, so I can continue playing for now. Has anyone else found this as well already? Otherwise I'd dig deeper (would have to install debug tools on the target machine, etc.) Thanks, Clemens PS: Great Work, Team!!! I really appreciate your efforts!

bird 2.0.0 issues

Hello, I just installed bird 2.0.0 on a test machine to try it out and I have some issues: (CentOS 7 / kernel 4.14.5-1.el7.elrepo.x86_64) 1) the kernel protcol sees no routes (both ipv4 and ipv6) and doesn't export any routes 2) each time I change the config and do a 'birdc conf' it resets all BGP sessions and logs bird: Cannot reconfigure channel XXX.ipv4 bird: Cannot remove channel XXX.ipv4 bird: Restarting protocol XXX 3) can't establish BGP with bird 1.6.3 if I have add paths on; on the session - 2.0.0 says: "BGP Error: Malformed attribute list" and 1.6.3: "Socket: Connection closed". add paths on; works between two bird 2.0.0. Could these be caused by kernel or *lib versions or are these bugs in bird? Thanks, Radu

BIRD 2.0.0: RFC8097 extended communities and rpki-light

Hello, while I was running some tests on BIRD 2.0.0 I've noticed that the handling of RFC8097 extended communities is different from 1.6.3. Scenario: - AS10 announces a route to the route server; - the route server adds the (0x4300, 0, 1) ext community (RFC8097); - AS20 receives the route; - clients are always both on 1.6.3. This is the filter I'm using: filter from_client { bgp_ext_community.add((unknown 0x4300, 0, 1)); accept; } The results I get follow: - when 1.6.3 is used on the route server, BIRD treats the community strictly according to RFC4360: If a route has a non-transitivity extended community, then before advertising the route across the Autonomous System boundary the community SHOULD be removed from the route. - when 2.0.0 is used, the community is treated accordingly to draft-ietf-sidrops-route-server-rpki-light-02 and is propagated to the client. Since I didn't find any reference to RFC8097/rpki-light on the web site, I was wondering if I missed something or if this is the expected behaviour. Configs and 'show route' output attached.
