Hi, we get this error about 7 times an hour on a BGP router running BIRD 2.0.7 on FreeBSD: <ERR> KRT: Error sending route xxxx/46 to kernel: File exists Is this something we should look into? thanks!

Hello, It appears you haven't launched BIRD for it to 1. create the socket, and 2. to listen on it. If you don't have any other manually started running instances (to verify, run ps -aux | grep bird and check if there are any other instances), you should just run systemctl start bird and if you want it to auto-start, systemctl enable bird. Yes, but how can I do that command if when I try to connect to birdc I get the error above? Proper way to start Bird

Hi all, which is the proper way to start Bird? I edited the bird.conf and now I am getting this error when I lunch birdc: Unable to connect to server control socket (/usr/local/var/run/bird.ctl): Connection refused I also did bird -p Thanks, Fabiano

birdc config not bring the bgp up

I'm using bird 1.6.8. I changed my bird config by adding bgp protocol to it. Then run command "birdc config" to apply the config. After that, the BGP session is not up: root@CL1:~# tcondr configureReading configuration from /home/talariuser/bird/etc/bird.conf Reconfiguredroot@CL1:~# tcondr BIRD 1.6.8 ready. I can't find any detail information about birdc on the web site. Is this command not valid any more in 1.6.8 or is there a bug in that? Wei

Kernel protocol

Hello guys! I would like to ask you what would you think the better practice would be: Can we remove totally the kernel protocol? I thought no but we tested it and it works. Now we have on our linuxbox set the static routes outside bird daemon, where we specify that the caches we have are behind the border routers. Would it be safe to totally remove this from the system configs and only use the Direct protocol as we said yesterday, and rely on the direct protocol that it learns the connected network and the multihop of the caches which reside behind the border routers? Re: BIRD drops specific IPv6 session for no reason

Hi Stefan (and the rest of the community), To give you an update, two days before we upgraded one of our Route servers with Kernel version 4.9 and at the same time we upgraded Bird to version 1.6.8 Situation became worse, the customer who reported the bug, 6 hours after the maintenance he complained for severe flapping. After checking the logs, we could clearly see that his IPv6 BGP session was flapping 3-4 times per hour. Always the same “Hold timer expired” reason. We tried: - sysctl -w net.ipv6.route.max_size=65536 Apparently didn’t work much and the flapping continued. Then we tried: - ethtool -K eth1 tx-gso-partial off. (per Stefan’s recommendation) That seemed to bring some stability for few hours. But during night it started crashing again and we also observed some flapping during the morning. Now we applied the "net.ipv6.route.max_size = 2147483647” in an attempt to make it more stable, after digging around the net and discovering the following thread: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=861115 <https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=861115> But this is really weird and not much in the logs to figure out the root cause. Question regarding an unreachable protocol

We realized that there is one BGP session which bird sees it as an unreachable destination, thus it doesn't advertise its prefixes to the other peers, since it does not go to the master table. bird 1.6 radv IPv6 Prefix-Delegation

Can I configure IPv6 prefix delegation with radv protocol? I could not find in the documentation how to do this. I have allocated the /48 subnet to the customer and I want to assign the first /64 to the WAN link (for communication between my router and the client's router), and give the remaining subnets to the client router.
