Dear support-team, In the BIRD 2.0 user guide, I see the support for RFC 3107 - Carrying Label information in BGP. We want to configure a VM with BIRD agent working like a PE for adding MPLS labels for IPv4 and IPv6 unicast routes. Package repositories
by Jan-Philipp Litza 23 May '18

23 May '18

Hi list, the prebuilt packages under [1] seem to be a bit outdated. While Fedora and CentOS at least have 1.6.4 available, Debian only has 1.6.3, and there is not a single package for 2.0. Are there any plans to provide prebuilt packages for 2.0? Is there anything one can do to help that process? Debugging the RIP code
by Minh Soan Duong 22 May '18

22 May '18

Hi BIRD experts, My name is Soan Duong. I am a newbie of routing protocols, and of course of The BIRD internet routing daemon as well. I would like to get more understanding about one simple routing protocol (e.g. RIP) in BIRD by debugging the code step-by-step. However, I have got stuck at configuring the first step to run the code in Visual Studio C++. Could you guys please point me out how could I configure things in C++ to starting debugging. Any help you have to offer would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Soan -- DUONG Thi Minh Soan Skype: soan.duong

BGP problem to expire holdtimer
by Mattia Milani 17 May '18

17 May '18

Hello all, i'm writing hear because i have a problem with some simulation that i'm making, the simulation is on my laptop with VM. I'm focusing on the hold timer expiration, i want to make this timer expire and see the differences. This is my topology: H1---H2----H3----H4----H5 H1 and H5 are the only one that share some route, i'll call them R1 and R2. So when the network it will be stabilized, in all RT (H1,H2,H3,H4,H5) I will have 2 voice, one to reach R1 and one to reach R2. In every host i setted an hold timer = 3 for every session, with this command: hold time 3; Now i want to "kill" the node H3 and see this result: after 3 seconds see in the RT of H2 and H4 a variation, like one cannot more reach R1 and the other one cannot reach R2. How can i do it? i need to disable something? because i tried this: 1)using the command: birdc -s socket_H3 down and shutting down the VM i see that the process that is shutted down, but the other simulation changed immediatly the RT so i tried: 2)use only the command birdc -s socket_H3 down and get active the VM i was thing that there was a checking on the interface if it is active or not. But it didn't work, the RT of others changed istantly. 3) so i was thinking that before closing itself bird send a signal to other bird connected (i didn't search in the code) so i use the command "sudo kill -9 *pid*" on the pid of the bird relative to H3, but with a big surprised i see that not only the process associated with H3 is killed but it will be closed the process of H2 H3 and H4 i'll try to explain it better: Process list: 100 Bird_H1 101 Bird_H2 102 Bird_H3 103 Bird_H4 104 Bird_H5 i use "sudo kill -9 102" process list resulting: 100 Bird_H1 104 Bird_H5 The survives is only the process that was sharing some route. do you have any suggestion to see the expiration of hold timer in act? Thanks a lot, Mattia

[PATCH] filter: Add .srclen attribute to filter on source prefix length
by Toke Høiland-Jørgensen 16 May '18

This adds a new attribute to expose the source prefix length in the same way as the destination prefix length, via a new .srclen attribute. ROA 2.x
by Mikhail Mayorov 16 May '18

16 May '18

Hi all! In version 1.x I used rtconfig for build import/export BGP check. It was separate files for every protocol included in main config file. roa4 table isp1_v4 { roa4 95.174.96.0/19 max 24 as 49037; roa4 185.230.240.0/22 max 24 as 49037; roa4 185.9.184.0/22 max 24 as 49037; } And after I use filter: if roa_check(isp1_v4, net, 1) = ROA_VALID then return true; Now I find new protocol RPKI, but I don't understand how can add/delete ROA in table. -- Regards, Mikhail V. reading direct route
by Mattia Milani 14 May '18

14 May '18

Hello all, i'm having a little problem, (Probabily is somthing so stupid) but i can't find the solution. I have this conf file: log "logTwo.log" all; router id 10.0.2.15; protocol kernel { metric 0; ipv4{ import all; export all; }; } protocol device { } protocol direct { interface "lo"; } The pourpose of the deamon that i need is simple, read the route address that i put in the "lo" interface and put it with the route of the deamon. i run the conf file with no error. Then i add a route in the lo interface, for example with this command: ip a add 192.168.4.0/24 dev lo and if i check the address with the commadn "ip addr" i can see it in the lo interface. but if i run the command: birdc show route all I cannot see the new route address that i just addedd in the "lo" interface How can i do that? Thanks to everyone that could help me, it will be so apreciated. Mattia

Hello all, Sorry but searching on the wiki i didn't find anyting about that. My question is, bird implements the MRAI minimum rout adverisement interval timer? what in the RFC 4271 is called "MinRouteAdverisementIntervalTimer" you can see it on section 9.2.1.1, page 85. There is a version of bird that implement it? and if I can use it how can i mange it? Thanks a lot, Mattia

Constant delete / add route after upgrade to 1.6.3
by Xavier Trilla 09 May '18

09 May '18

Hi, We've upgraded recently to 1.6.3 (We were using 1.2.5, which we had running for like 8 years!) and after the upgraded we are seeing a weird behavior. When running ip monitor route in the machine, looks like bird is constantly removing and adding routes, which could be considered normal, but the thing is that it deletes a route and then adds the same route again (Those routes are received via BGP): Heres an example: 103.72.2.0/24 via 91.126.95.153 dev vlan111 proto bird Deleted 103.72.1.0/24 via 91.126.95.153 dev vlan111 proto bird 103.72.1.0/24 via 91.126.95.153 dev vlan111 proto bird Deleted 177.75.72.0/24 via 91.126.95.153 dev vlan111 proto bird 177.75.72.0/24 via 91.126.95.153 dev vlan111 proto bird Deleted 185.165.122.0/24 via 91.126.95.153 dev vlan111 proto bird 185.165.122.0/24 via 91.126.95.153 dev vlan111 proto bird Deleted 196.46.242.0/24 via 91.126.95.153 dev vlan111 proto bird 196.46.242.0/24 via 91.126.95.153 dev vlan111 proto bird Deleted 64.70.30.0/24 via 91.126.95.153 dev vlan111 proto bird 64.70.30.0/24 via 212.80.191.185 dev vlan2 proto bird At the same time we are seeing the following messages on bird log: May 8 13:56:39 icewall-01 bird: Kernel dropped some netlink messages, will resync on next scan. May 8 13:57:02 icewall-01 bird: Kernel dropped some netlink messages, will resync on next scan. May 8 13:57:27 icewall-01 bird: Kernel dropped some netlink messages, will resync on next scan.
