Hi It’s possible to do read only access via birdc? I know that I can setup LG but question is about command line (birdc, birdctl)? Thnx

Hi, You have plans to add to the bird native support for working with the VPP fib. References for understanding the my question. https://wiki.fd.io/view/VPP/Features https://github.com/FRRouting/frr/wiki/Alternate-forwarding-planes:-VPP --- This link contains a description of the very curve way to support VPP fib by linux daemons. https://docs.fd.io/vpp/17.07/release_notes_1707.html Regards, Vladislav

Why is a neighbour as ospf peer reachable, but as router unreachable?
by Roger Schreiter 01 Aug '17

01 Aug '17

Hello, is there something special to configure, for bird ospf knowns, which IP addresses belong to the one neighbour router? I have bird in ospf area 2. The ospf peer is in area 2 and in area 0. bird ospf learns all prefixes and routes from that peer and shows them in its lsadb. However, it copies no routes to the kernel routing table. I assume, bird does not understand, that this peer is the gateway. Can someone please have a look at the "topology" output and give me a hint about the "unreachable" notices! 93.189.172.3 is the ospf id of the peer, according to its IP address in area 0. 93.189.172.85 is birds IP address. The peer has .86 in that network. Regards, Roger. bird> show ospf topology all area 0.0.0.2 router 93.189.172.3 unreachable network 93.189.172.84/30 metric 10 router 93.189.172.85 distance 0 router 93.189.172.3 metric 10 network 93.189.172.84/30 dr 93.189.172.3 unreachable router 93.189.172.85 router 93.189.172.3

OSPF no route
by Михаил Хотько 01 Aug '17

01 Aug '17

Hi! I have some trouble with OSPF: Switch1 and Switch2 has BIRD on them. The connections are like that: <Switch1> gi 0/1 -- gi 0/1 <Cisco> gi 0/2 -- gi 0/1 <Switch2> Switch1 has: - VLAN1 with IP 192.168.0.1/30 - interface Gi0/1 in access mode and VLAN1 - OSPF router with network 192.168.0.0/30 area 0. Switch2 has: - VLAN2 with IP 172.16.0.1/24 - interface Gi0/1 in access mode and VLAN2 - OSPF router with network 172.16.0.0/24 area 10. Cisco Switch has: - VLAN1 with IP 192.168.0.2/30 - VLAN2 with IP 172.16.0.2/24 - interface Gi0/1 in access mode and VLAN1 - interface Gi0/2 in access mode and VLAN2 - OSPF router with 2 networks: 192.168.0.0/30 area 0 - and 172.16.0.0/24 area 10. The trouble is that Switch1 has not receive route to Switch2, if prefix length of IP on VLAN1 is 30. If prefix length is 29 or less everything is OK. show route
by Luk 01 Aug '17

Hi, What is proper syntax for this kind of show route: bird> show route protocol ECO where net ~ 2.2.2.250/31 all 2.2.2.250/31 via 1.1.1.66 on eth0.930 [ECO 08:53:25] * E2 (150/200/10000) [1.1.1.66] Type: OSPF-E2 unicast univ OSPF.metric1: 200 OSPF.metric2: 10000 OSPF.tag: 0x00000000 OSPF.router_id: 1.1.1.66 bird> show route protocol ECO where ospf_router_id ~ 1.1.1.66 bird> I expect, that second show route should show the same output as first. -- Regards, Luk

Syntax error at "export all;"
by Roger Schreiter 29 Jul '17

29 Jul '17

Hello, I just started configuring my first installation of bird. However, I even do not get running the simples samples. My conf file protocol kernel { export all; } does fail. Bird complains "syntax error" (indicating the line number with "export all".) If I comment out that line, bird complains "Channel not specified" (indicating the line with the closing }.) I wonder, if protocol "kernel" is known by my bird installation. When "configure" had run, it showed a lot of protocols, but "kernel". Maybe "kernel" is included anyway. Any hints for me? Roger.

Injecting route into bird/ospf
by ico 28 Jul '17

28 Jul '17

Hello, I would like to hear some advices about bird on linux, what is the best way to inject some route into OSPF on bird. I want for my router to announce via OSPF to other routers that some IPs should be directed to it. Example: I want IPs 10.0.0.1/32 and 10.0.0.5/32 to be directed to my router. I would set dummy0 interface, set those IPs there, include dummy0 in OSPF and voila! the rest of network "knows" 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.5 is here. This doesn't seem as a good solution for me, because the traffic to 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.5 would then be NATed or modified in other way so these IPs really don't need to exist. I'd like to change these settings few times in an hour so writing it to bird config doesn't seem like a good solution. Is there a way to do it without setting IPs anywhere? Maybe set some custom local routing table for this and tell bird to announce routes found there? echo "25 mytable" >> /etc/iproute2/rt_tables ip route show table mytable # empty ip route add 10.0.0.1/32 dev lo table mytable ip route show table mytable # shows 10.0.0.1 on loopback # and now also bird picks up 10.0.0.1 and announces it What is the best way to do it "the most dynamic way"? Thank you ico

Multiple ASBRs: summarizing prefixes from BGP into OSPF
by Israel G. Lugo 28 Jul '17

28 Jul '17

Hello, I've got an internal Openstack deployment, currently in beta but expecting a few thousands tennants in full production. Each tennant gets at least an IPv4 prefix and an IPv6 one. They may get additional prefixes upon payment or special request. The way Openstack works is each tennant will have his own (virtual) router, with an unique IP. This router is controlled directly by Openstack and only knows static routes. Then there are a couple of BGP route servers, also controlled by Openstack, who announce the prefixes and respective nexthops. On my side, I've got a couple of ASBR, using Bird to speak BGP with Openstack's route servers and learn the routes. They forward the traffic between my backbone and the tennant routers. On the backbone side, they're speaking OSPF (also with Bird) to the rest of the infrastructure and redistributing external prefixes. Everything works. My problem is, I don't want to announce hundreds or thousands of prefixes into OSPF when we go full. I'm carving the tennants from a couple of large prefixes so I want to aggregate this at the ASBRs. But I can't just blindly add a large static sink route on my ASBRs and redistribute that to OSPF; that opens me up to the risk of dropping traffic if one of the ASBRs loses BGP with the Openstack route servers. What I need, unless someone has a better suggestion, is some way to summarize externals in OSPF, such that the summary prefix is only announced if I've got more specific routes inside it. I tried creating an NSSA and placing the prefix there as external, but it didn't help: protocol ospf backbone { import all; export filter ospf_export; ecmp yes; merge external yes; area 0.0.0.0 { stub no; interface "eth0" { /* auth stuff */ }; interface "lo" { stub; }; }; area 0.0.1.2 { nssa; /* transit VLAN to the tennant routers */ interface "eth0.22" { stub; check link yes; }; external { 198.18.0.0/15; }; } >From my understanding, I believe the external keyword on an NSSA would be to aggregate in the opposite direction (backbone -> NSSA area). Is there any way to do what I want? I.e., summarize externals into OSPF, if and only if I have specific routes inside the summary prefix? That, or a conditional route, that only gets inserted if another certain route exists, or if the BGP peering is up. Regards, Israel G. Lugo
