Protocol static with virtual devices
by kiwi 30 Jul '14

Hi everyone, many months ago I tried to install a route on a virtual device (IPIP, GRE, doesn't matter) like this: protocol static { 1.2.3.0/24 via "ipip0"; } It didn't worked out. So I've choosen another non-bird solution. Yesterday I tried it again and it still does not work. Now I've tried to investigate a bit: birdc show interfaces: ipip0 DOWN (index=39) PtP Multicast AdminUp LinkUp MTU=16412 Looks like bird don't want to install the route because of the devices state (AdminUp, LinkUp but DOWN). "Protocol device" is active (scan time 10) and birdrestarts also don't help. bird> show route for 1.2.3.0/24 Network not in table Any ideas? Best regards, Manu

Ubuntu / debian bird packaging
by Alex Bligh 25 Jul '14

25 Jul '14

Previous packaging had the init script read /etc/default/bird, which pretty standard Modern packaging seems to look for /etc/bird/envvars Is there a reason for this change (which broke stuff here) and would reading both be better? -- Alex Bligh

ubuntu packages upstart config - $BIRD_ARGS missing
by Frederik Kriewitz 24 Jul '14

24 Jul '14

Hello Ondřej, it looks like you forgot to add $BIRD_ARGS during the creation of the upstart config files. That causes some trouble if you try to enable e.g. graceful restarts (-R flag). We would appreciate it if you could apply the attached patch to fix that. Best Regards, Frederik Kriewitz

RFC5549?
by Sargun Dhillon 22 Jul '14

Is there an plan to support RFC5549 with eBGP soon? Would it require a ton of work (I imagine, given that BIRD, isn't IPv6 aware)?

Bring UCI and LUCI configuration for Bird4/6 to improve integration with OpenWRT
by Eloi Carbó Solé 21 Jul '14

21 Jul '14

Hi everyone, I am Eloi Carbó, a student from the UPC in Catalonia, doing a Google Summer of Code [0] with the QMP project [1] team, and the support of Guifi.net [2] and BMX6 [3] developers and under the scope of Freifunk [4]. I would like to inform you that we are bringing UCI and LUCI configuration support to Bird4 (now) and Bird6 (ASAP) putting our efforts on BGP routing. All the background and project information can be seen in [0] so, just to summarize, I am going to be working during the GSoC as described in [0] and later, I will continue porting the rest of the protocols and improving them. Our main goal is the OpenWRT team to accept our package in the main repository. Currently I am rewriting the whole UCI configuration scripts as I found some difficulties in LUCI that, changing the configuration scheme, would improve its simplicity. Now I am fixing UCI scripts, improving LUCI and porting that to Bird6 owing to have both versions with an stable initial version. The code will be available in [5], but currently it is not usable yet. The hardware I am using are: - TP-Link WDR 4300 (and 4900) - Mikrotik Routerboard 750G - And connecting to Guifi.net network (about 600 routes). Best regards, [0] - http://qmp.cat/News/12_Google_Summer_of_Code_2014_and_QMP [1] - http://qmp.cat/Home [2] - http://guifi.net/en/node/38392 [3] - http://bmx6.net/projects/bmx6 [4] - http://freifunk.net/en/ [5] - https://github.com/eloicaso/bird4-openwrt -- Eloi Carbó
