I've just hit the wall with that on Redback/Ericsson gears; for their code, signed 0x80000005 is more recent than signed 0x7fffffff according to the debugs (while I've no problem at all with a Juniper router). For my use (announcing anycast service loopbacks as tagged N2 routes) I guess I could push the metric to Infinite to see the route disappear (but not the LSA), while it's not very satisfying. However I must say that I'm more than interested by such a code revision (since manually replacing LSA_MAXSEQNO to 0xffffffff in ospf/lsupd.c line 616 would be a horrible hack) :) Lennard, which vendor do you have problem with? On my side I've opened a bug at Eric&Son's TAC. -- regards, Olivier Benghozi Wifirst

A new version released of a BGPSEC implementation for BIRD
by Michael Baer 10 Jul '14

10 Jul '14

Hi all, I wanted to announce a new, 0.3, version of BGPSEC supporting BIRD code. It's currently based on v1.3.9 of BIRD and is available as a patch or as a full source tarball at: http://bgpsec.tislabs.com This is an ongoing project following the IETF's SIDR Working Group's BGPSEC implementation: http://datatracker.ietf.org/wg/sidr/charter/ http://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-sidr-bgpsec-protocol/ The code is still at the experimental/testing stage and should not be use used for production services. If any one wants to play with the code, please feel free to email me any questions or bug reports. Thanks, Mike -- Michael Baer PARSONS baerm(a)tislabs.com

RE: QNX port of BIRD?

Hi! Not, no QNX port. We haven't seen any serious interest so far. And I have no idea how complicated it might be. Infer BGP 'source address' value dynamically
by Eric Cables 09 Jul '14

09 Jul '14

I was hoping someone could assist with defining a local constant for a BGP 'source address' through dynamic means. An example would be 'router id from' where a mask and prefix can be identified to inherit the router ID. router id from "lo*" 192.168.0.0/24; saddr = <whatever router id inherited> I was hoping that router id would be an internal symbol, but I don't see it in the 'show symbols ...' output. Any thoughts? The goal is to make this configuration as dynamic as possible, so that it can be deployed to a number of systems without manual changes on each. -- Eric Cables

BGP and ECMP
by kris 08 Jul '14

08 Jul '14

Hi all I'm looking to do ECMP with BGP learned routes on Linux, either eBGP learned routes from the same peer AS, or iBGP routes with the same IGP cost. It appears there hasn't been any work on this. Are there any unofficial patches or workarounds to make this work? Thanks!

Implementation of default router preference in the radv protocol
by Baptiste Jonglez 07 Jul '14

Hi, I just implemented default router preference (RFC 4191) in the radv protocol. Patch follows. It's not a big change, but any feedback on the patch is welcome. Thanks, Baptiste

BGP well known communities representation
by MrBr ＠ GMail 04 Jul '14

04 Jul '14

In BIRD no-export and no-advertise communities visible in their numeric form (65535, 65281) (65535, 65282). Is there any way to represent them as no-export and no-advertise strings? This will greatly ease our support team troubleshooting

Strange bgp_ext_community.add behaviour
by Alexander Shikov 04 Jul '14

04 Jul '14

Hello, I've met strange bgp_ext_community.add behaviour when adding ext. communities to static route: protocol static TEST { import filter { bgp_ext_community.add( (ro,MyASN,10856) ); accept; }; route 185.61.244.0/22 blackhole; } - works: Jul 2 17:19:57 gate bird: TEST: State changed to down Jul 2 17:19:57 gate bird: TEST: Starting Jul 2 17:19:57 gate bird: TEST: Connected to table master Jul 2 17:19:57 gate bird: TEST: State changed to feed Jul 2 17:19:57 gate bird: TEST > added [best] 185.61.244.0/22 blackhole protocol static TEST { import filter { bgp_ext_community.add([ (ro,MyASN,10856), (ro,MyASN,3) ]); accept; }; route 185.61.244.0/22 blackhole; } - does not work. Route is filtered: Jul 2 17:26:22 gate bird: TEST: State changed to down Jul 2 17:26:22 gate bird: TEST: Starting Jul 2 17:26:22 gate bird: TEST: Connected to table master Jul 2 17:26:22 gate bird: TEST: State changed to feed Jul 2 17:26:22 gate bird: TEST > filtered out 185.61.244.0/22 blackhole bgp_ext_community.add( [ (ro,MyASN,10856) ] ); also don't work But adding communities one-by-one works as expected: protocol static TEST { import filter { bgp_ext_community.add( (ro,MyASN,10856) ); bgp_ext_community.add( (ro,MyASN,3) ); bgp_community.add( (65101, 1 ) ); bgp_community.add( (65101, 2 ) ); accept; }; route 185.61.244.0/22 blackhole; } bird> show route all 185.61.244.0/22 blackhole [TEST 17:34:42] * (200) Type: static unicast univ BGP.community: (65101,2) (65101,1) BGP.ext_community: (ro, 201836, 10856) (ro, 201836, 3) User's guide says that .add argument may be a (e)clist, thus this issue seems to be a bug. Please, advice! Thanks. -- Alexander Shikov Technical Staff, Digital Telecom IX Tel.: +380 44 201 14 07 http://dtel-ix.net/

List of supported BGP extended communities
by Alexander Shikov 02 Jul '14

02 Jul '14

Hi all, I'm not able to find full list of BGP ext. communities supported by bird. In Users Guide there are only "route target/origin" mentioned. Any other ext. community types are supported? Thanks in advance! -- Alexander Shikov Technical Staff, Digital Telecom IX Tel.: +380 44 201 14 07 http://dtel-ix.net/
