BGP is not coming up: Error: Invalid next hop

Hi. We have a pretty simple BGP configuration with bird: protocol static static_isp { import all; route <net1>/22 via <gw>; route <net2>/23 via <gw>; } protocol bgp isp { disabled on; import none; export where proto = "static_isp"; local as <X>; neighbor <nei> as <Y>; } Initially, we configured network interface with wrong ip address, then after fixing this, bird gives us this error after reconfiguration (Error: Invalid next hop). What's the problem? We could tried restarting bird but this is production router (we have replaced Cisco router with this Linux box) and we woudn't want to do that unless this is really needed. -- Timur Irmatov

Hey All, Just wondering what people are using to monitor the bird process(es)? Has anyone configured Supervise or the like? I have set up a test BIRD VM and have managed to make it Segfault once… :P Cheers Joe

BGP password behaviour

Hello, today i have had very strange experience with bird. Few days ago (approx 6 days) i have established bgp session with bgp password attribute. Since established this session, i have got messages in system log like this: kernel: [2956936.985539] MD5 Hash failed for (195.81.xxx.yy, 179)->(195.81.xxx.yy, 46595) kernel: [2956936.985761] huh, entered softirq 3 NET_RX ffffffff814e7060 preempt_count 00000100, exited with 00000101? But peer was UP, routes was installed, everything seemed OK. I didn't notice this messages for few days althoug messages was added very often. I read a little bit about "BUG: scheduling while atomic".. always was related to kernel code, not userspace.. it is a bit confusing. After that, i have disabled md5 auth from affected BGP session and messages are completely gone. Hi, I currently have the following bird configuration setup; # Configure logging log syslog { info, remote, auth, error, fatal, bug }; # Set the IPv4 router ID router id <%= router_id %>; # Configure the kernel protocol (for kernel routes) protocol kernel { persist no; # Do not persist routes when bird is stopped learn no; # Do not learn alient routes from the kernel export all; # Export all learnt routes to the kernel import none; # Do not import routes from the kernel } # Configure the direct protocol (for device routes) protocol direct { import all; # Import all directly connected routes into the table export none; # Do not export } # Configure the device protocol device { scan time 120; # Scan the list of interfaces every 120 seconds } When deleting an IP address from an interface (using ip addr del), the route is immediately withdrawn (presumably via asynchronous calls to bird). However, when adding an IP address back to the interface, the route doesn't appear in bird until the scan time kicks in. Should this not be asynchronous also? Thanks, Rob

BGPSEC patch

Hi All, We've been working on adding BGPSEC capability to BIRD. I have a link below to patch against v1.3.9 that supports BGPSEC connections between routers. If you desire, the link could also be added to BIRD's related/software wiki. It has only been tested in a small test bed w/linux machines and is currently in an alpha state, but should support the BGPSEC protocol with the exception of confederation handling, and algorithm rollover and of course any bugs. How to use ROA/RPKI ?

Hello all, I would like to use ROA filtering on my bird setup to reject invalid prefixes announced by my peers. I know there is currently no easy way to bind bird to an RPKI validator, right? I have to create a table in my conf file with "roa table roa_table_name" I have read ( https://ripe65.ripe.net/presentations/191-BIRD-20120926-OF-RIPE-EIX.pdf) there is a way to populate dynamically this table. How can I do that? "roa add" in cli? Is there a way to flush the table? I have also read (https://github.com/BIRD/bird/blob/master/filter/test.conf) I can use roa_check(). Can I do a filter like this? protocol bgp my_peer { local as 65000; neighbor 192.0.2.1 as 65001; import filter peer_in; } filter peer_in { if roa_check(roa_table_name, net, bgp_path.last) = ROA_INVALID then reject; accept; } Cheers!
