Hi, I've been debugging a bird6.conf (doing two ASN's) for almost two days, finding each time only one half working, and so being convinced it should work. So finaly I could made a clear conclusion: table as5; table as6; # router id 1.2.3.68; # # mysterious failure: #listen bgp address 2001::1a port 179; #listen bgp address 2001::2a port 179; # this works fine: listen bgp address 2001::2a port 179; listen bgp address 2001::1a port 179; # 8< ----- So by these I'd like to report. -- Leo

OSPF and mass route deletion

When routes are deleted (for ex., terminating a lot of PPP tunnels for some reason in same time), it seems like each removed route is sent into separate OSPF packet that causes troubles with OSPF in some cases (for ex., there's troubles with old quagga). Is there a possibility to add some rate-limiting (for ex., limit to 10 messages per second), and aggregate separate 'route deleted' messages to one packet?

Route reflector not setting originator_id

Hello, I have a very simple setup with one rr and one rr client. Im not seeing ORIGINATOR_ID nor CLUSTER_LIST attributes appended to the updates sent to the rr client. How to combine multiple import limit

Hi, is there any possibility to use import|receive|export limit for some number of routes with action warn and for some higher number of routes with action disable together (without multiple tables and pipe)? Thank you, Milan

define command is not working ?

Hi, I'm trying to make the configuration more template and variable based. but I'm fighting with this .. Am I using the define command wrong? External OSPF route cost metric

Hi, Is there a way we can advertise external OSPF routes with the actual route cost instead of ospf.metric1 or ospf.metric2. For eg : Route to 5.5.5.0/24 is via protocol1 with cost of 5 Route to 4.4.4.0/24 is via protocol1 with cost of 6 but ospf advertises this external route with metric of 10000. (I know i can change the 10000 in the config) but both the routes will be advertised with the same cost instead of 5 or 6. I have assigned the protocol1 with highest preference but need to also advertise with the actual cost. Is it possible to use the filter and replace the ospf metric with the above route metric ? Static IPv6 route with a link-local next-hop

Hi, Since this was non-obvious to get working, I'm sharing this here. To add a static route via a link-local next-hop, this configuration works: protocol direct { interface "eth0"; } protocol static { route 2001:db8::/32 via fe80::1%eth0; } If the "protocol direct" is omitted, then Bird never uses the route, and doesn't give any reason why in the logs (even with debug activated). Another difficulty is that all of the following are syntactically correct: route 2001:db8:1::/48 via "eth0"; route 2001:db8:2::/48 via fe80::1%eth0; route 2001:db8:3::/48 via "fe80::1%eth0"; route 2001:db8:4::/48 via fe80::1; However, only the first two forms are legal: - « via "eth0" » adds a directly connected route (which is probably not what you want depending on your use-case, but fully legal) - « via fe80::1%eth0 » gives the expected result, a static route via fe80::1 on interface eth0. - « via "fe80::1%eth0" » fails silently. I guess the parser takes all this as an interface name, which (obviously) does not exist. - « via fe80::1 » fails at runtime with « Static route destination fe80::1 is invalid. Ignoring. » in the logs, which is a very sensible behaviour. I think this is intricate enough to be noted somewhere in a documentation or wiki. Is this wiki [https://gitlab.labs.nic.cz/labs/bird/wikis/home] open to contributions? Maybe it would also help if Bird was a bit more verbose on the edge cases above? (e.g. a static route through an interface without a "protocol direct" should probably be logged somewhere) Thanks, Baptiste

[BGP] Routes exported very Slowly

Hello, I have a problem with one of my session. I've established a BGP session with one of my peer but I export very slowly all my routes (around 1 route every 20 sec) I tried to disable/enable the session, doesn’t change. I restarted the session, doesn’t change neither. converting our anycast node from quagga

Hi, I just started to play with bird. My anycast node setup is as follows. - each anycast server is serving form 1 up to 3 anycast prefixes - the anycast adresses are assigned to the dummyX interfaces as /32(IPv4) or /128(IPv6) - the BGP/quagga/ is advertising the /24 or /48 (added aggregate-address ......../24 (/48) summary-only - if I put the dummyX interface down, the BGP will stop announce the route associated to this interface, both IPv4 and IPv6 - if I put the dummyX interface up, the BGP will start announce the route The setup is a little more complex (metric, communities, preferencies, ..), but this is the main idea how it works. In another words I could stop/start announce the anycast prefix without reconfiguring the bgp daemon. Please, could someone point me how to do this in bird.
