ospf loading for ever...
by Arkadiusz Miskiewicz 24 Mar '11

Hi, I'm playing with ospf on few Linux hosts pretending to be routers in single LAN. Unfortunately one host has a problem. bird (1.2.5, git master) thinks route(r)s are "unreachable" (as seen by show ospf state all). It never gets into full state. All other routers have no such problem. There is no firewall here. Any clues? ps. is there bird related irc channel or do devs use irc? (arekm@freenode) config is: protocol ospf MyOSPF { debug all; rfc1583compat; import filter from_bgp; export none; area 0.0.0.0 { networks { x.x.x.0/22; }; interface "eth0" { }; }; } bird> show ospf neighbors MyOSPF: Router ID Pri State DTime Interface Router IP x.x.4.235 1 2way/other 00:32 eth0 x.x.4.253 x.x.4.190 1 2way/other 00:32 eth0 x.x.4.190 x.x.4.218 1 2way/other 00:31 eth0 x.x.4.218 x.x.5.242 1 loading/bdr 00:37 eth0 x.x.5.242 x.x.4.197 1 2way/other 00:32 eth0 x.x.4.197 x.x.4.82 1 2way/other 00:33 eth0 x.x.4.222 x.x.4.193 1 2way/other 00:33 eth0 x.x.4.193 x.x.5.159 1 loading/dr 00:36 eth0 x.x.5.159 x.x.4.223 1 2way/other 00:34 eth0 x.x.4.223 x.x.5.150 1 2way/other 00:33 eth0 x.x.5.150 x.x.5.137 1 2way/other 00:35 eth0 x.x.5.137 x.x.4.131 1 2way/other 00:35 eth0 x.x.4.245 x.x.4.230 1 2way/other 00:35 eth0 x.x.4.230 x.x.4.80 1 2way/other 00:35 eth0 x.x.4.215 x.x.4.217 1 2way/other 00:36 eth0 x.x.4.217 x.x.4.34 1 2way/other 00:36 eth0 x.x.4.216 bird> show interfaces lo up (index=1) MultiAccess AdminUp LinkUp Loopback Ignored MTU=16436 127.0.0.1/8 (Primary, broadcast 127.255.255.255, scope host) eth0 up (index=2) MultiAccess Broadcast Multicast AdminUp LinkUp MTU=9000 x.x.5.135/22 (Primary, broadcast x.x.7.255, scope univ) x.x.5.140/22 (Secondary, broadcast x.x.7.255, scope univ) x.x.5.148/22 (Secondary, broadcast x.x.7.255, scope univ) x.x.5.146/22 (Secondary, broadcast x.x.7.255, scope univ) x.x.5.152/22 (Secondary, broadcast x.x.7.255, scope univ) x.x.5.154/22 (Secondary, broadcast x.x.7.255, scope univ) x.x.5.139/22 (Secondary, broadcast x.x.7.255, scope univ) x.x.5.144/22 (Secondary, broadcast x.x.7.255, scope univ) x.x.5.145/22 (Secondary, broadcast x.x.7.255, scope univ) eth1 DOWN (index=3) MultiAccess Broadcast Multicast AdminDown LinkDown MTU=1500 sit0 DOWN (index=5) MultiAccess AdminDown LinkDown MTU=1480 sixxs DOWN (index=15) PtP Multicast AdminUp LinkUp MTU=1280 veth-c700 up (index=19) MultiAccess Broadcast Multicast AdminUp LinkUp MTU=1500 x.x.5.135/32 (Primary, broadcast x.x.5.135, scope univ) bird> show ospf state all area 0.0.0.0 router x.x.4.223 unreachable network x.x.4.0/22 metric 10 router x.x.5.135 distance 0 stubnet x.x.4.0/22 metric 10 router x.x.5.159 unreachable network x.x.4.0/22 metric 10 external 2.95.55.0/24 metric2 10000 [...] external a.b.c.0/24 metric2 10000 external e.f.g.0/22 metric2 10000 external h.i.j.0/22 metric2 10000 external k.l.m.0/19 metric2 10000 router x.x.5.242 unreachable network x.x.4.0/22 metric 10 network x.x.4.0/22 dr x.x.5.159 unreachable router x.x.5.159 router x.x.4.80 router x.x.5.137 router x.x.4.217 router x.x.4.131 router x.x.4.82 router x.x.5.150 router x.x.5.242 router x.x.4.230 router x.x.4.235 router x.x.4.223 router x.x.4.197 router x.x.5.135 router x.x.4.190 router x.x.4.34 router x.x.4.193 router x.x.4.218 -- Arkadiusz Miśkiewicz PLD/Linux Team arekm / maven.pl http://ftp.pld-linux.org/

where is my network with multihop bgp
by Arjan Filius 24 Mar '11

24 Mar '11

Hello Bird users, I tried to configure the/my first multihop bgp configuration for monitoring purposes, but i don't get the correct network exported. Our setup: 2 Bird bgp routers, connected with iBGP, and bot have there own transit's. the published /20 network work just fine for about one year now (no multihop). Now i'm setting up a multihop bgp with source an redundant internal VRRP address which belongs to that published /20 to another bird i've controll of, on both bgp routers. (so actually only the one which has the vrrp address is working/active) I've applied one "trick" as i don't know which transit is wil take now or in the feature, i set the next hop to it's source (the vrrp address) Everything seems to be exported (and imported on other side), except my /20 where it is all about. when i type: show route all export <myprotocolname> or show route xx.x.x/20 export it actually shows the /20 route but sniffing learnes the actually it is't get published to the other side. The /20 gets published just fine for the regular transits, and i've no clue yet what is going on. Enabeling debug isn't for the protocol isn't currently what i like to on this production system. Has any an idea what might going on here? running bird 1.2.4 Arjan Filius Thanks in advance, -- Arjan Filius mailto:iafilius@xs4all.nl

BGP Traffic Flood
by Nick 24 Mar '11

24 Mar '11

I upgraded a node from 1.2.3 to git, and now my node makes a flood of outgoing BGP traffic. The traffic consists in messages that repeat the same updates for a few routes. Here is one example (from tcpdump). Update Message (2), length: 63 Origin (1), length: 1, Flags [T]: IGP 0x0000: 00 AS Path (2), length: 22, Flags [T]: 64731 64768 64677 64602 64602 0x0000: 0205 0000 fcdb 0000 fd00 0000 fca5 0000 0x0010: fc5a 0000 fc5a Next Hop (3), length: 4, Flags [T]: 172.22.131.253 0x0000: ac16 83fd Updated routes: 172.22.2.0/23 This exact message repeated more than 10 times in only about 20 seconds. There are many more messages that also repeated more than 10 times in the same 20 seconds. -- Wanna turn ICANN into ICANN't? Join a darknet today: http://www.anonet2.org/darknet_comparison

bird ospf and ipv6
by fredrik danerklint 23 Mar '11

23 Mar '11

Hi! I have compiled bird from git with "git clone git://git.nic.cz/bird.git" on FreeBSD 8.2. (btw, why is the version on that 1.2.3 according to sysdep/config.h when there is an 1.2.5 release?) I've got ospf running on ipv4 between this machine and a OpenBSD-curent running OpenOSPF. They both can see eachother and also their lo1loopback interface where there is an ipaddress of an /32 net which ends on OpenOSPF with .1 and .4 on the bird. There is also an /128 net for the ipv6 part. This addresses is ping-able from both machine so the route does exists as expected. Now, I took that working configuration of bird and changed it to bird6. protocol ospf o6 { tick 2; area 0.0.0.0 { interface "vlan15" { hello 3; cost 7; }; interface "lo1" { stub yes; cost 1; }; }; } Bird can see and do inject the routes from OpenOSPF but can't see (?) the routes from bird6. bird> show route 2a03:xxxx:xxxx::xxxx:f01/128 via fe80::1e6f:65ff:fe81:c4ef on vlan15 [o6 15:53] * I (150/7) [xx.xx.xx.1] 2a03:xxxx:xxxx::xxxx:fc0/127 via fe80::1e6f:65ff:fe81:c4ef on vlan15 [o6 15:53] * I (150/7) [xx.xx.xx.1] 2a03:xxxx:xxxx::xxxx:fd0/127 dev vlan15 [o6 15:48] * I (150/7) [xx.xx.xx.4] bird> quit Now, why is bird6 showing that the routes should route via the link-local addresses? If bird6 is announcing that to OpenOSPF I can see that it won't add that route. -- //fredan
