I have seen usual information in /tmp/dump.file but nothin new for me. Afte "dump resources" command nothin changes. I have recompiled bird-1.0.9 once moor and it does not grow anymore ... Strange :-( I have backup of "growing" binaries but they does not grow anymoor too ... I only can suspect that there was "enemy" packets in our network which makes bird to grow in memory. Nothings comes in my head... We have a one big ethernet segment with several different ip subnets, all of them may have or may not their own RIP And my bird hears it every time. Tcpdump tells me about our net-tresh but can not do monitoring my net every time. Situation: I have 4 routers. Two of them was configured long time ago and I did not use filters for them, I limit receive RIP packets by iptables from One "trusted" host (there are several misconfigured routers in our net which send wrong RIPs to my machines). The third router I have Installed 3 days ago, I used filter to drop routes coming not from trusted host. 4-th machine is my experimental, I chech filters on in, Some patches and so on. Here is filter: filter drop_suckers { if net != 0.0.0.0/0 then { if from = 217.29.80.1 then accept; else reject; } else reject; } 3 and 4 machines had growing bird-1.0.8 and 1.0.9. On 1 and 2 stands bird-1.0.7 whithout filters and whith firewall. Maybe birds whith Filter gets some packets and gets memory leak ? I have discribed here 4 machines which have mainly the same configs whith little difference - routers ID and filters. Now I don't know any reason why bird was growing ... Becouse it stops growing. I steel can not make bird to do "dump resource" :-). The birdc command "dump resource" gets nothing in output: root@wasp:/usr/sbin# birdc -v 0001 BIRD 1.0.9 ready. bird> dump resources bird> bird> quit root@wasp:/usr/sbin# May be I need find some dump files after this command ? Hi all! I'm happy to announce the release 1.0.9. Except a minor bugfix in RIP, all of the changes are related to OSPF. It should be fully compatible with rfc2328 now. It means that it support MD5 authentication, multiple OSPF areas, virtual links etc. So, please test it. The next development focus will be the multicast routing procols. (But of course we will fix the bugs and add minor improvements.) Kind regards Ondrej Filip

And secondly, I hope the get some answer for my problem with bird: note:/etc/init.d# ./bird cat: /proc/ksyms: No such file or directory Kernel lacks rtnetlink support - Nothing todo for the BIRD What is missing in my kernel? RIPv2, incorrect metric changes

Hi all, I apologize if this topic has already been discussed on the mailing list, but I couldn't find a message archive to check it out. And, I apoligize for my poor English. My problem is that the BIRD RIPv2 daemon doesn't accept a worse metric coming from the router which is the nexthop for that entry. I'll paste some sniffed packet to give the whole idea. This network is very simple - 2 routers (200.0.0.1 and 200.0.0.2) with 4 interfaces each: Frame 1 (106 bytes on wire, 106 bytes captured) Internet Protocol, Src Addr: 200.0.0.1 Dst Addr: 224.0.0.9 Routing Information Protocol IP Address: 200.0.6.0, Metric: 2 IP Address: 200.0.5.0, Metric: 2 IP Address: 200.0.4.0, Metric: 2 /* The metric is 2. */ Frame 3 (106 bytes on wire, 106 bytes captured) Arrival Time: Jun 16, 2004 18:19:14.496397000 Internet Protocol, Src Addr: 200.0.0.1 Dst Addr: 224.0.0.9 Routing Information Protocol IP Address: 200.0.6.0, Metric: 5 IP Address: 200.0.5.0, Metric: 5 IP Address: 200.0.4.0, Metric: 5 /* Here I changed the default metric to 5. protocol direct + protocol kernel + multitables

Hi! I'm trying to use bird as a "propagator" of direct routes defined by interfaces to other tables than the default. Just playing around a bit. My conf is: table test; protocol direct { table test; import all; } protocol kernel { table test; persist; scan time 20; export all; kernel table 2; } protocol device { scan time 10; } If my machine has as main routing table: 192.168.1.0/24 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.20 default via 192.168.1.1 dev eth0 ... can I expect to have this entries replicated in kernel table 2? (my results show that I don't get this) Is it possible to do that? Thanks in advance. Roberto

Hello, finally, the 1.0.8 is released. This release mainly fixes a lot of bugs in the code. The only new feature is NetBSD and FreeBSD port. (OpenBSD not tested, but it should be easy to add.) Feela
