Static binary

Good day. I want to compile static binary of bird and birdc. I should made little router with a few disk space on an CompactFlash. Now I get come systems binaries (most of them is a BusyBox) all about 4M with a kernel. I never tried to load my little system yet but I should install the bird there. Can You help me ?

Hello! I'm beginner with BIRD and need some help. Bird-1.0.9 vs Quagga (ex zebra) in a OSPF network

My network has several Cisco routers, several Linux routers and my workstation is on the same network. The Linux routers have Quagga installed, but on my computer I test both wiht Bird and Quagga. The problem is that Quagga receives all he routes published by the Cisco routers, while Bird doesn't. Even more interesting, from two Cisco routers bird doesn't receive any routes, but from one of the Ciscos bird receives 65 routes while Quagga receives 87 routes. -- damjan | дамјан This is my jabber ID --> damjan(a)bagra.net.mk <-- not my mail address!!!

Two BGP instances

Hi, I have Bird running BGP with two peers, and I have two "static" protocols with several routes in them. This is abbreviaded example: protocol static pool1 { routes... } protocol static pool2 { otherroutes... } protocol bgp bgp1 { ...BGP setup for peer1... } protocol bgp bgp2 { ...BGP setup for peer2... } Now I have two questions... Q1: I tried to put pool1 and bgp1 in a separate bird route table, by adding "table table1;" in them, and pool2 and bgp2 in table2. But with that config it seems Bird didn't anounce anything via BGP. Q2: Even better would be if I could make a filter, in the BGP protocols, to find out which static protocol the route has come from, so that I can bgp_path.prepend my AS on routes from pool1 going out to peer2, and on routes from pool2 going out to peer1. Both IPv4 and IPv6 at the same time?

I would like to switch to bird (instead of zebra/quagga), but it has one annoying feature: it may be compiled for IPv4 or IPv6, not both. And I need both. Are there any plans to resolve this issue? Or maybe both versions may be used together as two separate binaries? However, that will probably break when multicast routing is in (Linux doesn't like two multicast routing daemons at the same time). Greets, Jacek

Hello Everybody. I have some difficulties in disabling IPv6 support for bird-1.0.9-rpm. Of course it`s easy to edit /etc/init.d/bird script to disable starting bird6 startup. But I`m interesting in 100 % disabling IPv6 support in bird (a bit maniac) So first of all, I`ve corrected %build section in bird.spec from: ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var --enable-ipv6 to: ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var and after that the final %build section looks like that ./configure runs twice with the same options. Is it necessary? May be it`s quite enough to run ./configure only once Next, in %install section i see: %install 1. rm -rf $RPM_BUILD_ROOT/* 2. make install prefix=$RPM_BUILD_ROOT/usr sysconfdir=$RPM_BUILD_ROOT/etc localstatedir=$RPM_BUILD_ROOT/var 3. install bird6 $RPM_BUILD_ROOT/usr/sbin 4. cd $RPM_BUILD_ROOT 5. install -d etc/rc.d/init.d 6. install $RPM_SOURCE_DIR/bird.init etc/rc.d/init.d/bird 7. install $RPM_SOURCE_DIR/birdc6 usr/sbin/birdc6 So I comment out 3-rd & 7-th lines, and in %files section I see 2 lines with setting up attributes for bird6 & birdc6. (I`ve disabled them too). Am I correct?

bird 100% load

I am triing to use bird 1.0.7, in my linux distribution based on uClibc, as routing daemon in network where neigbours are serviced by zebra (quagga). After few second after bird starts it consumes cpu runtime to nearly 100%. This seems to last forever. From debug messages I do not see anything unusuall to happen. Most values is set to default. I am using only protocols static and ospf. It also seems quagga's ospfd has some troubles comunicate to bird and crashes sometime, but this is not confirmed. Any ideas? Adam Pribyl

Hi all. It seems, that bird 1.0.8 anf 1.0.9 has some memory leak. I use only RIP and I see something like this: root@netserver:~# ps axu | grep bird root 154 0.0 26.7 17788 16768 ? In my "old" and stable router I use bird-1.0.7 and it is not growing.
