BGP and iBGP problem

Hi, I've got two router link by iBGP. Both maintains two BGP session : BGP1 BGP2 BGP3 BGP4 | | | | RTR1------iBGP----RTR2 BGP2 and BGP4 announce exactly the same thing and I want local BGP announce (with BGP2 on RTR1 and BGP4 on RTR2) to be choozen. The thing is that I get on RTR1 or RTR2 route choozen in iBGP. I try to prepend my AS to the bgp_path but it changes nothing. BIRD & production BGP?

Hello all. I'm wondering if anyone has deployed BIRD as a BGP routing daemon in a production environment? Any feedback on it's stability would be appreciated. Hello all. Thanks for the replies to my question -- not seeing nearly as much traffic here as on the Zebra list, I was concerned that no-one was using it in a production environment. Does anyone have an opinion on how Bird compares to Zebra? And as far as developer support, the Bird team seems fairly small (but quite competent). Are issues dealt with well, or is it a self supported type arrangement? I'm comfortable programming and debugging in C, but it would be nice to know there's a good support network as well. And considering one of the machines we're proposing to use this on will be quite some distance away, we'd obviously like to have a stable system. Puzzling behaviour from bird ospf

Martin, List I'm experimenting with a modest network of three linux based routers. Each router has an 100bT Ethernet port, and a prism based wi-fi interface using HostAP. All Ethernet ports connect to a common switch. There is also a firewall box connected to the switch, not exchanging routes with the network under test. Running RIP bird distributes routes around this network very predictably. However I'm having problems with moving the network over to OSPF. I'm uncertain if my problems are misconfiguration, an external problem, or a bug in bird. I'm very much a beginner with OSPF so it's entirely possible that I'm missing something obvious. Help would be very much appreciated. If I start up bird on the routers, a normal OSPF election takes place and routes are distributed as I expect. However if I leave the set up for a few minutes the non local routes start to disappear from the routers. Around the same time the non dr routers start complaining 22:54:08 <DBG> ShokaOSPF: Bad OSPF hello packet from 172.16.1.50 received: hello interval mismatch. I've tried a whole string of config file settings, but the following traces were taken with the ospf settings defaulted as far as possible. The output from the three routers is reported below, with basic interface details and a copy of the config file used on all three routers. My mailer seems to have wrapped the longer lines in the logs. If this is inconvenient I can supply the same data as a plain text file. A possibly related problem is that if I leave the routers running overnight, birdc is unable to connect to bird on some of the boxes. I've not been able to determine a pattern, but AFAICT the dr is never showing this problem. local route disappearing

Hi, I experiment strange behaviour (too, sorry I don't know OSPF) when using BGP. On one of my router I loose the interface route of one ethernet interface. It is used to a BGP connection : R1 - ethernet - R2 It seems that we've got the following phenomenom : - R2 send the interface route to R1 - bird on R1 put this route in the main table destroying the interface route. - bird on R1 detect that there's no route to R2 and stop the session (Netlink message) The configuration is symetric, R2 used also bird. There's no problem on R2, so the problem has to come from the difference in the configuration. R2 works with main table and R2 works with different table. All Just a small success report, I've compiled and installed bird 1.06 on a half dozen or so RedHat 8.0 and 9.0 boxes. I'm only using it for RIP at present, will try OSPF shortly. I've integrated it into the RH startup scripts OK, but would like to script birdc to do shutdown and reloads in the usual RH standard init scripts. Is there some way to pipe commands into birdc that I'm missing? If not, if I hacked birdc to accept command input, would this be of general interest ?. (make no mistake, I'm not up to coding OSPF for IPv6 ;-) simple hackery only envisaged.) My compliments on a very nicely designed and documented project. Harry

RIP authentication problem with cisco

Hello, It seems that the auth type message field is not correctly send. bird send it in host order but other routers (like cisco) wants it in network order. So it is necessary to change the file auth.c (in proto/rip/) at line 132 : block->authtype = P_CF->authtype; become : block->authtype = htons(P_CF->authtype); This was tested with 1.0.4 but the rip related files have not changed in 1.0.5. BIRD 1.0.6 released

Hi folks, after a long silence I've finally released bird-1.0.6. This release includes all bug fixes gathered since 1.0.5, especially interoperability fixes for IPv6 BGP and for RIP authentication. You'll find it at the usual places. It also seems I'll have more time for developing BIRD in the future, so if you have any ideas, let me (or better the whole list) know.
