BGP aggregate routes?
by Бохонкович Юрий 12 May '04

Hello! I wonder if anybody has managed to make bird to aggregate adjacent BGP routes originated from static routes. I.e. to compact 2 route prefixes 10.10.0.0/24 10.11.0.0./24 to one less specific route 10.10.0.0/23 ? -- WBR, Yury Bokhoncovich, Senior System Administrator, NOC of F1 Group. Hi. For example I get 217.29.80.0/24, 217.29.81/24, 217.29.86.0/25 and 217.29.86.128/25. Each subnet should be route to its own gateway. I redistribute this routes and I want redistribute their by aggregated blocks : 217.29.80.0/23 and 217.29.86.0/24 becouse they both (or four not aggregated) are routed though me for my customers :-). Customers want to get routes to know subnets for which traffic is very chip. As I said befor 130-150 routes can be aggregated to 20-50 - depends on weather ;-). It is not a real problem for to have 150 routes, but my customers ask me to reduce numbers of routes. Finaly I can stand them befor the fact of 150 routes, but I try to find more clever way. -----Original Message----- From: Бохонкович Юрий [mailto:byg@center-f1.ru] Sent: Friday, April 23, 2004 6:31 PM To: Zharovtsev, Anton Cc: bird-users(a)bird.network.cz Subject: Re: Routes aggregation Hello! Hi. 2: Realms described in iproute2 documentation http://www.linuxgrill.com/iproute2-toc.html. It can be usefull with iptables or ip rule or some thing else ... For example I use realms to limit my city traffic and to find IP in a blocks of city nets: root@warm:~# ip ro sh realm tpu 195.208.161.88/30 via 217.29.80.1 dev eth0 proto bird realm tpu 195.208.161.116/30 via 217.29.80.1 dev eth0 proto bird realm tpu 195.208.172.0/24 via 217.29.80.1 dev eth0 proto bird realm tpu 217.106.172.0/23 via 217.29.80.1 dev eth0 proto bird realm tpu 195.208.160.0/19 via 217.29.80.1 dev eth0 proto bird realm tpu or root@warm:~# ip ro get 217.29.86.99 217.29.86.99 via 217.29.80.77 dev eth0 src 217.29.80.149 realm StackNew cache mtu 1500 advmss 1460 I have patch writen by my friend but he does not support it any more ... Bird was not configured becouse I had wrong installation of 2.6.5 kernel headers, sorry :-). Bird was not compiled becouse I had upgradedt to very new bison (1.8...), after downgrade all is fun. I have not tried to "autoconf" bird with a new bison yet Last time I have compiled bird saccessafuly with the origin ./configure 2.6.5 kernel and bison 1.35(old bison in slackware) -----Original Message----- From: Martin Mares [mailto:mj@ucw.cz] Sent: Friday, April 16, 2004 6:24 PM To: Zharovtsev, Anton Cc: bird-users(a)bird.network.cz Subject: Re: Status of bird project Hello! > 1. This should be pretty easy to fix. I'll look at it soon (it's a bit problematic now as I've moved to Berlin for 6 weeks and the things haven't settled here yet). > I have tried to generate a new configure, but I could not. Status of bird project

Hi. I have some questions about bird status. 1. Is a project alive ? Gated is dead, zebra is unstable (IMHO - I don't like zebra), quagga is strange fork from zebra. Is only bird for linux and its several routing tables support. May be I forget some routing daemon ? What else is created specialy for linux ? 2. Are the any plans to include realms support ? (I have a patch from my friend, but friend is lazy and he has stoped developing this patch) 3. Bird does not configure whith a linux-2.6.x kernel headers (I try 2.6.4 and 2.6.5 but it seems that all 2.6.x hase the same result) checking protocols... ok checking for linux/rtnetlink.h... no configure: error: Appropriate version of Linux kernel headers not found. How to fix this ? linux/rtnetlink.h is in its place ... I have tried to generate a new configure, but I could not. Usualy some projects have a aoutogen.sh whitch deals whith auto-tools and other prepearing things ... 4. After full upgrade my Slackware to Slackware-current bird does not compile even whith 2.4.25 kernel headers m4 -P ../../conf/gen_parser.m4 ../../conf/confbase.Y ../../sysdep/unix/config.Y ../../sysdep/unix/krt.Y ../../sysdep/linux/netlink/netlink.Y ../../nest/config.Y ../../filter/config.Y ../../proto/bgp/config.Y ../../proto/ospf/config.Y ../../proto/pipe/config.Y ../../proto/rip/config.Y ../../proto/static/config.Y >cf-parse.y bison -bcf-parse -dv -pcf_ cf-parse.y cf-parse.y:1407.2: syntax error, unexpected "|" cf-parse.y:1435.3: syntax error, unexpected "|" make[3]: *** [cf-parse.tab.c] Ошибка 1 I think this is new auto-tool or some thing else (I am not a programmer :-)) Can You help me ?

problem with bird and unnumbered routing
by Sörös Jozsef 28 Feb '04

28 Feb '04

Hi! I have unnumbered config on a linux box. Something like below can be seen: 1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP> mtu 16436 qdisc noqueue link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00 inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo inet 194.246.102.1/32 scope global lo 2: eth0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue link/ether 00:04:76:f7:cc:65 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff inet 10.255.2.1/24 brd 10.255.2.255 scope link eth0 inet 194.246.102.1/32 scope global eth0 2: br1: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue link/ether 00:04:76:f7:cc:65 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff inet 10.25.1.80/24 brd 10.25.1.255 scope link eth1 inet 194.246.102.1/32 scope global eth1 3: br2: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue link/ether 00:04:76:f7:cc:65 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff inet 10.255.1.1/24 brd 10.255.1.255 scope link eth2 inet 194.246.102.1/32 scope global eth2 In this case if a packet is sent farer than the connected network, the source address is the global (194.246.102.1) address. If packet is sent to the connected network, source address is link scope address. With this config bird does not work correctly. Bird selects the global scope (194.246.102.1/32) address as primary and sends OSPF hello with this source address to the connected net. I think the algoritm of the primary address selection is not correct, because if there is link scope address it must be selected. A router interacts with other routers on its connected network (except BGP). So I suggest a patch to correct this: --- tmp/bird-1.0.7/nest/iface.c Thu Aug 14 10:13:13 2003 +++ bird-1.0.7/nest/iface.c Tue Feb 24 18:51:37 2004 @@ -407,9 +407,10 @@ WALK_LIST(a, i->addrs) { - if (!(a->flags & IA_SECONDARY) && (!b || a->scope > b->scope)) - b = a; - a->flags &= ~IA_PRIMARY; + if (!(a->flags & IA_SECONDARY) + && (!b || ((a->scope < b->scope)&&(a->scope != SCOPE_HOST)) )) + b = a; + a->flags &= ~IA_PRIMARY; } res = (b != i->addr); i->addr = b; Best regards: Joseph -- Üdvözlettel: Sörös József Multip Kft. multiple routing tables trouble
by Nick 'TARANTUL' Novikov 10 Feb '04

10 Feb '04

I have BGP peer and and store routes from it in table rtbgp. After that, I want sync bird table with kernel routing table. For this I add to my config: protocol kernel test { table rtbgp; scan time 10; # Scan kernel routing table every 20 seconds kernel table 100; # Kernel table to synchronize with (default: main) } root@alfa:/root/bin# /usr/sbin/bird -d -D /tmp/bird bird: /etc/bird.conf, line 253: All kernel syncers must use the same table scan interval If I change scan time to 20, then bird have segmentation fault. root@alfa:/root/bin# /usr/sbin/bird -d -D /tmp/bird Segmentation fault -- TARANTUL
