Multiple Filter Definition

Hi all, is it a bug or a feature, that BIRDs configuration sanity check (bird -p) does not blame about multiple filter definition with the same name? Support for 'show bgp summary'-like command
by Alexander Shikoff 21 Sep '10

21 Sep '10

Hello, When making a looking glass for bird I met a lack of summary-like command for bgp. Attached patch adds 'show bgp summary' command to CLI of birdc. It produces output that looks like Juniper/Cisco-style output. Example: BIRD 1.2.4 ready. bird> show bgp summary Peer AS Last state change Prefixes rcvd/best State/Last error 193.25.x.x 13249 21:11 0/0 Passive 193.25.x.x 20850 21:11 0/0 Passive 193.25.x.x 21011 21:11 0/0 Passive 193.25.x.x 25372 21:12 3/3 Established 193.25.x.x 28097 21:11 0/0 Passive 193.25.x.x 35320 21:11 0/0 Passive 193.25.x.x 42546 21:11 1/1 Passive Socket: Connection closed My integration of command in nest/config.Y is quite dumb but it works. If such command is essential for the users then a bird team may integrate it in more accurate and right way. Patch is applied to version 1.2.4. It has been tested on FreeBSD 7.2. -- MINO-RIPE

I guess trying to maintain it manuallly would be a real pita. Bird as route server and bgp comunities
by Denis Samsonov 18 Sep '10

18 Sep '10

Stupid question:) Who set up a bird Route server with support for bgp community (a la MSK-IX, SPB-IX)? Be able to share pieces of the config for example. tried to do as in the examples mentioned # Bgp cummunity function bgp_out (int peeras) ( if! (Source = RTS_BGP) then return false; if (0, peeras) ~ bgp_community then return false; if (8861, peeras) ~ bgp_community then return true; if (0,8861) ~ bgp_community then return false; return true; ) protocol bgp Prime_Line { local as 8861; neighbor 178.xx.xx.44 as 42861; import all; export where bgp_out(42861); rs client; route limit 1000; } export where bgp_out(peerad) must be configured on all the neighbors? I have only one set up for test but it did not work: (the user gives us 0:8861 , but still prefixes are announced to all participants Route server

Deleting communities from outgoing prefixes
by Alexander Shikoff 14 Sep '10

14 Sep '10

Hello, I want to store prefixes in RIB with communities but I want to delete communities when prefix is being announced to peer. I'm trying following function: function bgp_out (int peer_as) { if ! (source = RTS_BGP ) then return false; if (0,MyASN) ~ bgp_community then return false; if (0,peer_as) ~ bgp_community then return false; if ( (MyASN,MyASN) ~ bgp_community ) || ( (MyASN,peer_as) ~ bgp_community ) then { bgp_community.delete([ (0,0)..(65535,65535) ]); print bgp_community; return true; } return false; } But communities are not deleted, I see them in debug output. bgp_community.add works as expected. Why is it impossible to delete them? Thanks in advance! -- MINO-RIPE

As routes in kernel routing table have protocol tag > specifying who added such route, we remove 'our' unexpected routes (for > example, if BIRD is killed and restarted), but ignore 'alien' routes. I also ran into that bug with six equal routers doing OSPF and one default router not doing OSPF. Each of the OSPF routers has a default route and two unreachable routes (ip r a ... proto static), that were tried to be overwritten by BIRD, because BIRD liked the same route via OSPF better. From what I read in ip(8) (search for "rt_protos") the correct behaviour would be: * On start up purge all routes with protocol boot * Respect routes with protocol static and give them higher precedence than dynamic routes. Routes with protocol kernel seem to be handled by the direct protocol. Perhaps it's using the addresses on the interfaces instead. For now I have set preference values manually (direct 20, kernel 15, ospf 10) and the log messages are gone. Greetings Timo -- Timo Weingärtner Abteilung Technische InfraStruktur Uni Karlsruhe

Community lists and ~ operator
by Alexander Shikoff 14 Sep '10

Hello, I have a problem with implementing following logic: if route has any of communities 31210:0 ... 31210:65535 then do nothing else add community 31210:31210. I tried next control: if ! ( (31210,*) ~ bgp_community ) then { bgp_community.add((31210,31210)); } print bgp_community; but without success: bird> configure Reading configuration from /usr/local/etc/bird.conf /usr/local/etc/bird.conf, line 61: syntax error Any ideas?
