I plan to implement it. Sorry, but i don't want OSPFv3, but OSPFv2 for IPv4 and another protocol for IPv6. This piece of code is self explaining: if test "$enable_ipv6" = yes ; then ip=ipv6 if test "$with_protocols" = all ; then with_protocols=bgp,pipe,rip,static fi else ip=ipv4 if test "$with_protocols" = all ; then with_protocols=bgp,ospf,pipe,rip,static fi fi but I can't see any reason for this. Hmmm, when I enable IPv6, then IPv4 is disabled? Hello, is there a chance to use both OSPF for IPv4 and IPv6 with another protocol (as OSPFv3 is not implemented yet)? Zkousel jsem neco zplodit sam, ale nefunguje to tak, jak bych ocekaval. Topologie: LAN 192.168.1.0/24, pripojene 2 PC, v kazdem 2 sitovky, jedna do LAN, druha mimo (10.0.1.0/24 resp. 10.0.2.0/24). Ocekavam: na kazdem z tech PC uvidim routu na externi sitovku toho druheho a po odpojeni nektereho z nich ty routy zase zmizi Vysledek: na kazdem z tech PC se sice objevi routa na 10.0.neco toho druheho, ale po jeho odpojeni nezmizi. Routing server traffic thru two external ips.

Hi, I am new and would like to know if this is possible with bird. I currently have a game server setup behind a linux router/firewall which is hooked up to two cable modems via two NICS( eth0 and eth1 ). The idea is that if I have 12( or more ) players, how do I tell the kernel( with me telling using route ) TX packets to 6 players on eth0 and the other 6 on eth1. Any thoughts? Hi again. I noticed messages in my syslog that inform about bird dumping the routing table a bit to often to the interfaces. I used Multicast mode at first (by not specifying any interface line in the "protocol rip" section of the configuration), but this did not seem to work. I don't know if it did not work because of a multicast problem (multicast is enabled in the kernel, I use linux 2.2.17) or if it did not work as there was no interface line (in this case the example in the documentation should be corrected). Using broadcast does not work as there is no broadcast address for the interfaces (tun*) that are used for the point-to-point link. What is needed for the multicast mode to work? One problem resolved

Hi again. One of the two problems/questions of my last mail have been resolved. Changing the "rip" configuration of bird to: ---[cut]--- protocol rip { authentication none; [...] interface "eth0" { mode multicast; }; interface "tun*" { mode multicast; }; [...] } ---[cut]--- worked fine. Now bird exchanges routes with the other hosts by multicasting mode, even over the ptp-links. So someone should change that example in the Bird Users Guide on page 6 (Chapter 3.1: Introduction). It says: "Here is an example of a simple config file. ... and runs RIP on all network interfaces found". But the "protocol rip" section does not list a "interfaces "*";" line, which I suppose to be the reason for part of my troubles related to that multicast thing described in my last mail. So the only remaining problem I encountered is that bird sends its routing tables every 5-10 seconds instead of every 30 seconds as it was told. One think that makes me wonder is that the "massive routing table broadcast" happens to eth0 only, not to the also existing ptp-link interface tun1... the broadcast to tun1 is done every 30 seconds as it is supposed to. Ah, yes, and one thing that I think of being a bit misleading is the message "Broadcasting routing table to eth0" (enabled by using "debug all", even if multicast is used for communication. Hi all. I've some questions regarding the configuration of bird. 1. I have a box with lots of (virtual) network interfaces. All those interfaces use the eth-namespace (and I can not change this unfortunately). I want bird to use eth0 with RIP in broadcast mode and to exclude every other interface which name matches "eth*". Would this following be right for that purpose? protocol rip { [...] interface "eth0" { mode broadcast; }; interface "eth*" { quiet; }; [...] } 2. How do I tell bird not to accept and not to send any RIP requests/updates from/to given interfaces? If I understood the documentation correctly, "quiet" tells not to send anything (but to receive) and "nolisten" tells not to listen (but to send) to an interface. Is there a mode that permits both? 3. I'm using some vtun connection between hosts in the local network. Vtun is a package that sets up virtual ip tunnels between two hosts and is able to shape traffic and to encrypt the tunnel data for each connection seperatly (for more information: vtun.sourceforge.net) I use the tun-devices for the connections between the hosts, which is part of the vtun package.
